I went to Costra Rica with a 20 lbs camera bag.
I met this guy from another group and he was tooting over 60lbs of gear.
Here was his set up at the hotel.
20lb tripod, gimbal head, focusing rail, camera body, remote trigger. He said that he has to take a couple of days off when he gets home to rest up.

20 pounds...that is about twice what I would take.

I doubt it. If anything, I'd bet he missed countless interesting capture opportunities because he was so bogged down by all the gear.
