I have the Canon 100 mm. It is not an L lens but it sure thinks it is! Sharp, sharp, sharp!

Thanks. With the current recommendations and a limited budget, that's the one I will probably go with.

I think I have every bit of equipment Canon sells for macro photography, from the 100mm L and 180mm L primes to the 2x extender, the 1X-5X micro lens, the 90mm Tilt-Shift (it does great close-ups!), and even a ring light flash for good measure. By far the 100mm L is the one I use the most. It is just an outstanding lens, from macros to portraits to telephoto. If it's not on my camera, it's in my bag. The other gear is all wonderful, but I think most people will get the most use out of the 100mm.

Wish I could afford the L lens

I use the non L Canon 100mm F/2.8 on a 5D2
It is a very good lens and I have heard it may even be slightly sharper than the L version.

The non auto focus one, right?

What are people using for a Canon full frame macro lens? I am using a 5D mark II as my camera

Thanks for the reference. I got this when I was less discerning.

Just called B&H. They said the issue is mute. There is no adapter to use a Sony lens on a Canon camera. Back to the drawing board.

An APC camera, like the Canon Rebel Crop Senor line, can accept both EF-S and EF lenses. However, a Canon Full Frame Camera, such as the Canon Mark II, only accepts EF lenses. It would depend then on what APC lens you are talking about. Is it an EF or an EF-S mount? http://www.differencebetween.net/object/difference-between-canon-ef-and-ef-s-lenses/

This is probably an extraordinarily dumb question. But what would happen if one of the 18-270 lenses was put on a full frame camera (5D mark II) Would the characteristics remain the same? I read somewhere that an 18-270 would appear like a 27-400? True? Would the sharpness be the same as on an apc camera? Would auto focus and vibration control work?

Thanks for the response. What are the Oreganizer Catalog Files and where do I find them?

The catalogue files are where PSE Organiser keeps the record of what photos you have and where they are.

As I have moved mine, I don't know where PSE puts them by default. Somewhere in Users/Your_name/Adobe or similar. However, Organiser will tell you where they are if you use the menu Edit/Preferences/Files/Folders for Saved Files.

I really appreciate your taking the time to give me the detail on this. I will do as you suggested.
Jim

I have the following subdirectories under Adobe:
- Catalogue
- Desktop wallpaper
- Other photos
- Outgoing email attachments
- Scanned photos

Copy the whole Adobe subdirectory including subdirectories into your Pictures directory and then point Elements there as I said in my first post.

I want to transfer my my Organizer settings to a new machine. I can recreate PE9 on the new machine, but it doesn't contain the picture organization found on the Organizer I had on the old machine. I use PSE9 on my desktop but also have it on my laptop for when I am away. I keep the Organiser catalog files in my Pictures directory and setting the Edit/Preferences/Files/Folders for Saved Files to find it here.

I then keep the two synchronised through a portable HDD by backing up the whole pictures directory on the desktop to the portable HDD and then copying it to the laptop. If I do editing on the laptop, I reverse the process to update the desktop.

This also has the advantage of having all photos and catalog info in three places at all times.

BTW, I use a free utility TreeComp (search on Google) to compare the computer and the portable HDD, so allowing me to merely copy the files that have changed.

I have Elements 7 and Elements 9 (each with large photo files). My question is how to keep both files of photos when I upgrade to Elements 11 and I uninstall the Elements 7 & 9 program software?

I haver the same problem except I will put PE 11 on a new computer. How do I get the the PE 9 pictures on one computer into PE 11 on a new computer?? Any help would be appreciated.

Put the pictures on an external hard drive and then use the external hard drive on the new computer. Use PSE9 Organizer to move the images. Save the catalog and use the PSE9 Organizer catalog on the new computer so you don't have to redo all of the organization you've already done. If you have not done any organizing with PSE9, then just move the pictures to the external hard drive and plug the hard drive into the new computer either before or after you install the new PSE11 on the new computer. Organizer can search for the new images or you can tell PSE11 Organizer where they are and let it build a new catalog.

If you have Adobe Elements it has a superb Photo Stitch capability.

The Canon software works OK but Camidia gave me so many problems that I deleted it!

Pre Elements I used Microsoft Image Composite Editor which is FREE and I was surprised how good it was and far exceeded the Camidia Photo-stitch.

Checkout;

Thanks - I have Elements and will give that a try
