What are people using for a Canon full frame macro lens? I am using a 5D mark II as my camera

I use the non L Canon 100mm F/2.8 on a 5D2
It is a very good lens and I have heard it may even be slightly sharper than the L version.

I think I have every bit of equipment Canon sells for macro photography, from the 100mm L and 180mm L primes to the 2x extender, the 1X-5X micro lens, the 90mm Tilt-Shift (it does great close-ups!), and even a ring light flash for good measure. By far the 100mm L is the one I use the most. It is just an outstanding lens, from macros to portraits to telephoto. If it's not on my camera, it's in my bag. The other gear is all wonderful, but I think most people will get the most use out of the 100mm.

Wish I could afford the L lens

Thanks. With the current recommendations and a limited budget, that's the one I will probably go with.

I use the MP-E 65 and the EF100F2.8LIS both with the MT-24 when flash is needed.

They do not really overlap in usage since they are 1x-5x and 1x+infinity respectively. The 65 is much more useful on a full frame than on a crop since it only does macro. FF lets you shoot slightly larger things. the 100 is much more useful generally since you can focus to infinity.

If I do not need the speed of the 85F1.2, I'll often use the 100 as a general lens. It is incredibly sharp and the IS is one of the best I've used. I think it is the lens in my avatar.

Even though I don't shoot Canon, I'd say go with any macro lens in the 90-105mm focal length. I've got 4 different macro lenses & they all deliver sharp images.Good macro shots are more about technique than equipment as most all true macro lenses are optically superb...

I am using the Canon 70-200 F4 L with these close-up lenses - http://www.ebay.com/itm/XPRO-F500-67mm-Close-Up-Lens-Macro-lens-Super-Macro-Conversion-Lens-/280874520769?pt=Camera_Filters&hash=item41656d10c1 - a great combination ! The 280 version allows 1:1 at 200mm .
