From my aging memory, the two spaces were standard with typewriters. They used a standard width for each letter. To better indicate the end of a sentence, the extra "white space" was a good idea. (We scan as we read, and that extra clue made it easier to comprehend the sentence.) Yes, I still do it! However, it is less critical now since the computer kerns all the letters (see example of kerning below), so a single white space is still noticeable. But I agree, two spaces is still better!! I am using it now as I type, and will see what happens when this gets posted.
Stay safe,
Bob

Here are 10 letters on each row.

Great pictures of a great car! Thanks for sharing. In my teen years, I built a plastic model of that car and it was clearly my favorite! In the current market, $1.6m seems quite reasonable.

I have had 3 Pentax DSLRs, (since the K-20) with IBIS and I have successfully cleaned all of them with the standard moist swab kits. I continue as directed and nothing bad as ever happened. I usually try the squeeze blower first with pretty good results...but moist swab cleaning is sometimes needed.
Pentax is particularly nice about having a built in picture taken of the sensor and displays the spots in context of the front of the camera. No confusion of where the spots are located.

What a great memory we have of seeing him a couple of times at the Skidmore Summer Jazz concerts in Saratoga, New York. He was around 85 at the time and absolutely wonderful. Thanks for the link.

Hi,
I would like to send that Spiratone filter to a long time friend of mine who is a relative of the Fred Spira, who owned Spiratone. He even worked there for awhile. To save time (and trouble for me), could you send it to him in Vancouver, Canada? I will fully reimburse you for any additional cost. How would you like payment?
Thanks,
Bob Woll

B-24's have 4 engines. The first 2 photos are B-25's. My Dad, "Doc" Clements bombed over Ployesti Rumania and was the 3rd and last of 21 B-24's to return. He and his crew got out just before it went up in flames!

My old professor was a cryptanalyst in WWII. He was on the team that decoded the German wind speed and directions over the target zone for those bombers. At that time on a 'need to know' basis, he did not know anything about that raid, but they did break the code. Glad your dad and crew made it home.

Speaking of old upstate NY restaurants, remember the Re Apple Rest?
We used to stop there every time we went to the “mountains.”

Me too! I had a burger and (greasy) fries!! Actually stopped there a several years ago and saw the shuttered building! There are some images on Google.
Across Route 17, competition came up from the Orseck Brothers (or Boys) so Southbound traffic could stop there more conveniently. They did not last very long!!!
I also ate a few times at that Lake George restaurant....did not realize it was the last one! I guess I am older than I thought!

I had a new 1977 Chevy Impala Station wagon. Years after the warranty was up, my cam shaft had those problems. Luckily my local mechanic had a previous customer with a similar problem and they contacted GM afterwards. GM covered the cost of the part but not the service, since he was an independent repair shop. He told me to take it to a Chevy dealer and bingo, they took care of it! Parts and labor!! I guess that must have been part of the settlement, but I never got all the details. Gave my dealer a nice bottle of Scotch!!

Not sure if true today, but in my youth (now 81) cam shafts in GM Chevys and Caddys were the same part. But if you ordered the Caddy number, then it costs more...from the same parts bin!!

Came across this ad recently.

No, but I did buy a BASIS which had dual processors. An Apple 2 and a CPM. Dual floppy drives (128k I think) and a 12" green monitor, a dot matric printer, plus the newest 300 baud modem!!! All for about $3500!!! No, I no longer have any of those! Just got a Dell laptop with all the bells and whistles for less than half that!! Ah, progress!
