The last Howard Johnson's restaurant has closed. It was in Lake George, NY. I had eaten there quite a few times. Too bad. So many old names are gone. When was the last time you shopped in an A&P?

I think Rachel Ray - the TV cook - used to work there.

I used to live their chocolate chip ice cream. The best on the planet.

Speaking of old upstate NY restaurants, remember the Re Apple Rest?
We used to stop there every time we went to the “mountains.”

Very sad. They used to be a great source of pistachio ics cream (one of the 49 flavors) that was part of our homemade spumoni recipe.

I now get my ice cream from Stewart's - a full half gallon - but they don't have pistachio.

I remember Stuckey's. You can find them alongside interstates (almost) everywhere, rotting, returning to earth.

EVERYBODY stopped at the Red Apple Rest.
The parking lot was jammed with cars and busses...

I have fond memories of HoJo's on family trips from Michigan to Florida but the one I remember best was the laugh of the waitress when while in my early 20's I asked "Where's my Welsh Rabbit?"

We had both HoJo's and A&P near us - years ago. If I recall, A&P stood for Atlantic & Pacific but I could be wrong.

Growing up I stayed at hundreds of HoJos and had thousands of meals in the restaurants on family vacations. One of the original iconic enterprises with the blue and orange colors. Thanks for the memories!

And how about Holiday Inn? When we traveled years ago, we went from one Holiday Inn to another.
