I watched an interesting video last night about how streaming has changed and how it will continue to change. The problem is that there are too many streaming services. They are adding commercials and raising their prices. Customers don't want that. The presenter predicted that the huge field of streaming companies will soon be reduced to a much smaller number.

One big problem I've noticed is that if I want to watch good shows and movies, I will have to sign up for half a dozen different services, and that would cost too much. Many people sign up to watch a particular series for a month and then cancel. Some services are making that more difficult and more expensive. Companies are finding ways to charge more without necessarily giving more. Amazon is adding commercials unless you pay more. It used to offer better video and sound, but that's now an upcharge. I've stopped watching Prime because of the frequent, long commercials. According to this video, streaming will cost more, have more commercials, and offer less.

I have quite a few streaming apps but I’m analyzing what I really want to keep. I just dropped Motor trend + ($50/yr) because there’s not much more than Motortrend on YouTube TV. I picked up Hulu as an offer from Disney + but I won’t be renewing. Not much worthwhile there and the same goes for Peacock.

We love Subarus. Currently we have a 2018 Legacy and a 2023 Crosstrek Sport. Prior to that, in chronological order we had 1996 Jeep, 2002 Impreza Outback Sport, a 2011 Legacy, and a 2013 Impreza (a lemon.)
BTW our 1st Subaru (2002 Impreza) was better in the snow than the Jeep.

The thought scares me. I do kind of need a new car but the thought scares me and I don't really want to think about it.

Think about watching and waiting.
Best time to buy a new “present year” car is when the next year models come out.
Also, if you have a good credit score, Watch for lower interest and other incentives, and wait till the feds drop the interest rates some more.

MOST IMPORTANT…buy with your brain, not your heart.
Good tactic, especially if the salesperson is pushy…don’t be afraid to walk away from the table or out the door.

If you get someone else Ipad can you just erase everything and start fresh like it's yours? The neighbor left his Ipad on top of his car and drove away so it dropped somewhere. He posted signs asking people to return it. I wonder if someone got his Ipad can they use it? Because if they can I don't think they will return it to him especially he doesn't offer a reward.

I just did that twice to an old iPad for my friend but you do need the password for the existing Apple ID.
Perhaps if you went online and asked that same question you’d probably get more answer’s than you need.

I’ve been using YouTubeTV since 2020 and never looked back. I kept fighting with Optimum to lower my $325 bills, and telling them they are not seeing the handwriting on the wall, and that people are “cutting the cord” everyday.
I use YouTubeTV, in NY (9 months,) and FL, (3 months.) One price…$72/mo.
Recently, my son discovered that YouTubeTV allows family members to use my account even if they don’t live with me…No additional charges. YTTV only allows 2 moves per year but I think there are ways around that like “traveling.”
I pay the same price per month wether I’m in NY or FL so no need for a different Streaming service in each place.
You DO need Internet in either location and I recommend at least 200 MB/second (mbs?). In both locations I have my own modem & router. Renting a modem from your provider will cost you at least $10/month x 12 months=$120/year. Times that by 10 years and your paying $1200 for that modem.
I use Amazon Fire Stick TV on every Tv in both locations. DON’T BUY THE CHEAPEST ONE, as you’ll only be able to change the channels. A couple of bucks more and you’ll be able to turn your TV on and off and control the sound without using any other remotes.
Last thing. Fire Stick TV has it’s own programs but not network stations. That’s why you buy subscribe to YouTube TV or other streaming service that provides network stations. You can download numerous free “apps” that will provide a wide variety of programming and also download some of the major Network Apps, but programming may not be in real time/live.

My Son in Law, a college professor, makes hotplate/trivets out off wine corks and Masonite. Everyone who sees them wants them.
We were at an Italian restaurant and they had a map of Italy on a counter that was filled with resin.
Very creative uses for corks.

I often watch "Everyday Home Repairs" on YouTube. Last night, I watched him set up solar power for a shed. I thought I might do that for my shed. Nope!

Aside from the wire and boxes, I would need $200 solar panels and a $900 battery unit. If lights are that important, I'll run a line from the garage for a fraction of that price.

I’ve bought many products from a company called Anker. Highly rated. They sell charging cables, Q chargers, and many other items.
They’ve been sending me emails about their other products like Solar Generators in all sizes and configurations. Might want to take a look. They seem to be fairly portable.
Also, they’re not cheap but very practical. No fuel but the sun, and no moving parts. If I had the $$$ I’d sell my 950 watt gas generator and get one.

A few years ago, I bought a CPR V5000 call blocker, and it was fantastic. Then it started working erratically, blocking calls I wanted to make. I get half a dozen telemarketing calls every day, and I'd like a way to stop them.

Do any of you have a call blocker that actually works? I use Ooma for my home phone and TracFone for cells.

EDIT: I see that the CPR V5000 is still highly rated, so I might try to reset it and see if it works any better.

My iPhone and Verizon divert calls form numbers not in my contact list to phone the answering function on the iPhone. Many of the spam calls try to fool you by using numbers from my Area Code, 917. Then i block all numbers from 917.
The biggest problem I have is dealing with calls from my medical group, Mt Sinai. Every office has numerous numbers which I have to add to a singular contact; MtSinai, so they get through.
I’m also on the national Do Not Call list which most spammers ignore.

I miss road maps, the ones that the gas stations had in a rack, free for the taking. I could look at a map and see how I "might like to go" instead of going how I am be in "told to go". I guess the fastest way to get to your destination is via the GPS, but then you may miss many sights that add to enjoyment of travel. If you're in a hurry, GPS's are a blessing but for enjoying the countryside, get out the map.

WAZE offers several routes and shows advantages and disadvantages of each.

I used to have two Garmin GPS units until I started using WAZE. WAZE is always on in my cars as it tells me when there are problems on the road ahead among other things.
I almost never get lost anymore. WAZE does have a bit of a lag when providing the next instruction on my route but I can live with that.

I use Notes on my iPhone to keep my PWs and that’s secured with facial recognition or 6 digit PIN code.

Have you noticed that it's getting more difficult to sign into many sites? The ID and password are no longer enough. They have to send a code, get answers to questions, or also sign into Google. I don't like this, especially when I have to find my cell phone, turn it on, wait for it to boot, and then look for the code.

I just signed into Ancestry to see more distant relatives, and I had to follow that up with a sign-in to Google.

I noticed that when I use a Private Mode in Firefox I had to go through a lot of hoops when logging into my “secure” sites like banking. Had to wait for the code every time I logged into my Chase account, then others started doing that.
I finally started using the “non-private” mode and most of that went away. I know I should use private mode but it IS a royal P.I.T.A.
On my iPhone, I usually just have to use facial recognition.
