Solar Power for Shed

I often watch "Everyday Home Repairs" on YouTube. Last night, I watched him set up solar power for a shed. I thought I might do that for my shed. Nope!

Aside from the wire and boxes, I would need $200 solar panels and a $900 battery unit. If lights are that important, I'll run a line from the garage for a fraction of that price.

I’ve bought many products from a company called Anker. Highly rated. They sell charging cables, Q chargers, and many other items.
They’ve been sending me emails about their other products like Solar Generators in all sizes and configurations. Might want to take a look. They seem to be fairly portable.
Also, they’re not cheap but very practical. No fuel but the sun, and no moving parts. If I had the $$$ I’d sell my 950 watt gas generator and get one.

Yes, Anker seems to have developed a good reputation. Still, for my shed, a flashlight will work.

You don't need to use a $900 lithium battery for what you want to do.
A standard deep cycle battery would work just fine.
I put together a battery backup for a small refrigerator using a Delco 2500 watt invertor with a RENOGY solar battery
for $210.00. A lithium ion battery of the same amp hours was $900.00.
You could buy a standard marine grade deep cycle battery for less then $175.00.

If your going to be powering some LED lights in the shed, a UPS battery and a small inverter would do just fine.
BTW I tested to see how long the 100 amp hour battery would power a 10cf refrigerator should I lose power.
After 24 hours it still had another 10 hours run time minimum.

Yes and them battery as expensive as they are would be the first to go bad.

For as much as I/we are in our shed, I'll use a flashlight or lantern.
Ambient light with the door open is quite sufficient for checking/adding oil to the lawnmower.

Eventually I might do that for grow (plants) lights for the shorter days for a green house. Have to see what it cost to run the lights. Probably LED & wouldn't add much to the ole electric bill. Solar is for larger electric cost or off grid. Unless you want to lean toward the green energy environmentally.

Just make sure they are proper LED for growing plants as normal LED have limited spectrum.

If you want 'light' in your shed, go to Harbor Freight & look at motion sensing security lights - put the light in the shed & the solar panel out side. OTH, if you want to POWER your shed, like operate some sort of a work shop, well, that's another ball of wax. Good luck!

I've thought about that, but I seldom go into the shed at night. It's very scary!

And you haven't been to Harbor Freight.

No, I keep resisting because I know I'd buy too much.
