There is no rush. I hadn't thought about getting rid of the lens until I saw the one you are selling. It is an EFs lens though and will not work on full frame cameras if you are planning to move in that direction. Also, it does not work with a Kenco multiplier. I want you to be aware of the limitations of the EFs lens if you aren't all ready aware of these facts. I wasn't when I got the lens and was somewhat ticked off when I couldn't use it with my multiplier.

I wouldbe happy to send pictures and more details on either item. They are rarely used and I have the lens hoods for both and the end caps as well as uv filters. Both lenses are in excellent condition and I hadn't thought about trading or selling them until now. However, the lens you are marketing would fill a gap where I seem to shoot a large majority of my pictures and though the 18-200 is a decent vacation lens, it isn't used all that much for the landscapes and sunsets that I like to photograph. The 70-300 Tamron was a gift that I would have preferred to not have received, but it's the thought that counts, right. It is very crisp from f5.6 to f14 and has very little chromatic aberration that I can find. If you're wanting to do some long range stuff this is a pretty decent lens. I've used it with a Kenco 1.5 x focal length extender which puts it out to about 450 x the 1.6 crop factor and it does very wll on a tripod.

Would you be interested in trading for a canon 18-200mm f/3.5 or a Tamron 70-300mm with vibration control which came out last summer?

The website SLRGear.com has good reviews of lenses which graphically show the sweet spots a various f settings on a lense. It is a good starting oint to figure out where the best setting is for a particular lens may be.

I think the crop factor on a Nikon is 1.5 so you multiply the focal length which is 10 to 20 by 1.5. That would make your wide angle seem like a 15 to 30mm if you are on reduced sensor sized Nikon. If you were on a Canon then the crop factor would be 1.6.

You might try trial versions of LightRoom from Adobe, Aperture from Apple, and the big gun Photoshop from Adobe. I have tried each of them in the past and think that Lightroom probably is more fun to use with Aperture second because it is easier to import and export photos than Lightroom. I'm not familiar with the free apps mentioned but wii certainly give them a trial. A lot of the free programs are better than the commercial apps.

Very clear. Is the lens stabilized or had you stopped drinking for a bit?

I use a Kenko 1.5x with a Tamron 10-24 wide angle occasionally and have used it with a Tamron 70-300 rarely, but the quality of the image with the long lens leaves a lot to be desired, especially at 300mm. It also does not work with the EF-S lenses, specifically the 18-200 which is my carrying around lens. It does work well with the 28-135 and the 18-55. My cousin gave me the Kenko so I didn't waste any money. I have tried it on a 17-40mm f/4L that I rented and was very disappointed. I haven't tried extension tubes on a camera, but on a telescope they do a nice job of extending the focal length and work well, but you definitely need a pretty bright object like the moon or Jupiter for viewing.

Thanks for the advice and I have rented one to try out and like it for the crisp, accurate color. I'm not sure this has the range I want since I have two 40D's that I use and haven't any plans to upgrade camera bodies for a while. Most of the experts that I have read advise improving the lens quality rather than upgrading camera bodies and this would be a first step in that direction with this lens. Thanks again for the advice.

Thank you all. I rented one and it arrived today and I think it is one of the sharpest lenses that I have tried. I really like the weight and though I rented the 24-70 f2.8 and loved it, carrying it around did get rather tiresome after a while. I would like lower light capability, but not the weight. Thanks for the tips.

If you are using a Mac, go to the Finder and look for a file called All Images and it is the master repository for every image in the system. You can search by date or select one or a group of images and push the space bar and it will display each one or as a slide show. The images are there it is just locating them and then re-establishing the link with Lightroom.

I would advise you to really check out the places you get that price quoted. if it is Digital Depot or something like that, their reviews would give anyone making a purchase at the advertised price an interesting adventure. Here is a website to read.
