Great lens and great price, if I didn't own one already I would buy it without hesitation. Good luck with the sale!

They are averaging about $2,000 with as low as 900 to approx. 15,000 shutter actuations on fredmiranda.com now. MBD18's are about $250 used and I just purchased two EN-EL18's with a battery age of '0' for $100 each, I received the BL-5's free with the batteries. I already had the charger for my D5. It's great, I now also have EN-EL18's for the D850 and my D500.

Your first illustration is a little misleading. If a single stack it 1/2 inch thick then 100 would be 50 inches tall or if split side by side it would still be over 2 foot tall. Just a little out of proportion.

And it weighs about 22 lbs.

You conveniently forget that Budgets are passed by Congress. That includes the House of Representatives.
The house is controlled by the Democrats. The President presents a budget, the congress modifies it and passes it. At the end of the day, the President has very little to say in the matter.

Had we a Republican Congress, House and Senate, and either a Republican President or Democrat President, the US Federal Budget would be different. There is history to prove this.

Also remember, money is power and all politicians crave power.

Some valuable resources:

David Busch's Nikon D850 Guide to Digital SLR Photography is excellent and The D850 Experience by Douglas Klostermann is good as well. Hard copy or Kindle.

Another asset is to use is: https://backcountrygallery.com/ The Nikon Autofocus Book is a valuable and much used resource by forum member as well as other Nikon tips and settings on the site.

For Steve at Back Country Gallery, good advice.

In the Playback Menu turn on Image Review. In the Custom Settings Option #C4 lets you decide the length of time for the Monitor Off Delay.

These are great lenses and very sharp. We have one we use on a D7100 and have made very large prints from the Grand Canyon and Zion National Park with it.

Good price too, good luck with the sale.

Had an accident with the lens and now need a few screws and the rectangular black blocks that hold the sunshade fast to the lens. (I have the screw tightening device) Told Nikon does not sell parts. Any suggestions?

Mark Goldman of Goldmine Photography mgoldman626@gmail.com makes the blocks out of steel to replace the standard ones. I needed one for one of my 300's and they work great, they are $50 each though, but will never need to be replaced again. The cost is due in part to a 12 step machining process in making them.

Not sure if he has the smaller screws you are talking about but he is also a machinist so he may be able to make them.

I suggest you look at the Z7; similar sensor to the D850 but all of the advantages of mirrorless for product photography. And you can use your current DX lenses for 20mp images while you sort out your lens upgrades.

I recommend mirrorless because they are shooting live view all of the time; so what you see is what you get. And it's easy to run the output to an external monitor.

An alternative would be to consider an Olympus E-M1.2 and 12-40 f/2.8 lens, which has excellent close focus capability. The Olympus has a high resolution mode that can produce 80mp images with much better color stability and no moire. You need to use a very stable tripod and shooting table, but if that's how you shoot then the results are incredible.

"And why do you think you need to upgrade?"

I took a look at the catalog from the factory and I saw excellent images in there but you know that already. I have not seen those big images you mentioned. The images in the catalog have plenty of details.
I have no experience with the D850 and I am sure I will never will. I use a 24 Mp. camera and the files are not only full of details but very capable of big enlargements. You mentioned colors in your post and I seriously question if you will see a difference using the D850. A color space has so many colors and that cannot be changed by using one camera over another. sRGB is the same regardless of the camera in use.

I am sure you have the money to spend otherwise you would not be interested in a D850 so buying the camera is your prerogative.
I feel that if it is not broken I should not fix it.

I’m a bit confused as to why there are recommendations here for the OP to purchase a Nikon D6. The camera has not been released, there is no release date given, and once released there will be a long wait to actually get one! And on top of that, we don’t know the specs of what is more than likely to be a camera intended for sports and wildlife shooters.

The D850 is a solid choice for the intended purpose. Along with a good macro lens and flash ... done.

HI ALL: My name is Dick Clark. I do product photography for our family business that takes me all over the world. With my camera of course! I shoot for our catalogs and websites. I Supply photos to our customers for their catalogs and websites. I provided images to Cabela's that went into 3,000,000 catalogs.

We do signs with photos that are 2ft X 4ft digital prints on Sintra plastic sheets for trade shows. They print on both sides with near perfect registration. We can put them on tall light stands so customers can see them in both directions. I do product shots of polished-shiny-chrome plated products. These are very hard to get good pictures of because the chrome draws and reflects light from everywhere. I built light tables with LED flood lights in light boxes that have diffusers on the them to provide light to surround the product top and bottom. I also use sheet gels to create color casts that go on flood light boxes to enhance the products. LED lights are great because they can go in enclosed boxes because they don't heat up as much as incandescent bulbs.

My Photography has gone from a hobby to an insanity. Here's our website:
http://online.flipbuilder.com/nvsa/fhfx/mobile/index.html I love that the folks on UglyHedgehog are nearly as insane as I am.

I shoot with a D7200. I use a Nikon Micro lens for small parts and flowers. 10-24 DX
wide angle for bigger parts and landscape shots. And a 300 DX telephoto for zoom.

So I look forward to what you think of me upgrading to the D850 for the pictures I'm taking. I'm also interested in what lenses you'll recommend. Does anybody know if Nikon is going to come out with a new version of the D850?

You might want to read this review by Thom Hogan - http://dslrbodies.com/cameras/current-nikon-dslr-reviews/nikon-d850-camera-review.html

I have both a D5 and a D850. The D850 is what you want for product photography. If you want additional low light performance and need a high frame rate (Nikon D5 and D6 soon) then buy one of those but you might be better served to get the D850 and spend the camera body savings on the better lenses required for a D850. Thom has a list of lenses on the same site and I believe Nikon USA also published a list of selected lenses for this model.

I went to Costra Rica with a 20 lbs camera bag.
I met this guy from another group and he was tooting over 60lbs of gear.
Here was his set up at the hotel.
20lb tripod, gimbal head, focusing rail, camera body, remote trigger. He said that he has to take a couple of days off when he gets home to rest up.

The tripod weighs much less than 20 lbs. I have a similar, if not the same tripod and its weight is 4.5 lbs.

Hi all,

I have an F5 that is in need of repair - specifically the front wheel that controls aperture randomly selects an aperture value when spun. I've tried all of the home remedies to no avail. This is a common problem with these cameras, but I am finding it difficult to find anyone that will repair it.

Anyone have a recommendation? I have called numerous repair facilities and either they only work on DSLR's, or the F5 is not among the cameras that they will service.

Thanks!
