Yesterday a stag wandered onto my front lawn. I ran to get my camera to capture the image. I went out my front door and started shooting. When I reviewed my shots, I found the images all fogged up. My house was air conditioned and outside was hot and humid. Is there anything I could do to keep my lens from fogging up?

I use a Dell Inspiron 13 with 8 G of memory and a 256 G SSD drive. It has an i7 processor and cost about $700 and weighs about 3.3 lbs. One of the problems with all laptops is tying up the relatively small SSD with downloaded photos. To solve this, I use a 256 G thumb drive plugged into a USB 3.0 port to store my raw photos and processed results. I can run all the latest PP software simultaneously with no noticeable lag. My only problems with this computer is that battery life is less than I would like and that the 13.3" screen is a little small for editing photos.

The drawback of larger screen laptops is the increase in weight and lack of portability.

Why is ink so expensive. It is more expensive than the finest perfume by the ounce. It is because the Printer manufacturers make more money on the ink than they do on the printers. Nail gun manufacturers give their guns to carpenters for free because the carpenters must use proprietary nails that they sell. Epson makes printers with inexpensive refillable ink reservoirs as well as those that use ink cartridges. The Epson printers with the refillable ink are priced 3x more than those with cartridges. They will get you one way or the other.

Paris is beautiful with lots of photo ops. However, if you want to shoot inside the Louvre or Notre Dam you need a low light camera. In most cases that means a DSLR with a larger sensor. Almost any of the cameras will give satisfactory results for out door shots.

I use Corel Aftershot Pro 3 and Paintshop Pro 2018. Aftershot is like Lightroom and Paintshop Pro is like Photoshop and Photoshop elements all in one. Both programs cost less than elements alone. The Corel products have 16 bit color depth for most of their features and layers. They also are compatible with PS plugins. There are also quite a few YouTube tutorials available if you don't mind Australian accents.

That is great. My only problem is that a new camera has new features, menus and controls. Getting a new camera just before going on a trip, gives you little time to learn how to use it to it's best advantage.

You can't stop progress. When I started photography, the SLR was the thing. Then came the DSLR and film all but disappeared. Now Mirrorless cameras are coming of age and the future of DSLR's may be numbered. There will always be something new and improved coming along. There will be overlap between the old and the new but in the end the new will win out.

A good tripod does more than support your camera and lens combo. Much more importantly it dampens vibrations. When using a telephoto lens vibrations are amplified and your image will show movement softness in anything larger than a 3.5 X 5 print. inexpensive tripods make decent light stands but are terrible when it comes to dampening vibration.
Tripods do not dampen vibration. They are designed to hold the camera and lens steady. Some may be less sesseptable to aeolian perterbation (wind). If the ground vibrates, then the tripod will transmit that vibration to the camera. The laws of physics still apply, regardless to the cost of the tripod. That said, carbon fiber legs are a poorer transmitter of vibration than aluminum.

St. Johns the Devine cathedral is near Columbia ( 112th St. and Amsterdam Avenue). It is the largest gothic Cathedral in the World and is still under construction. Construction started in the 1890's.

For the most part, desk tops and lap tops have become commodities. Every name brand including Apple, produce reliable, problem free devices. That said, what matters is the specs and to a lesser degree the cost. If you are planning to use your lap top as your main computer for PP and are not concerned with portability and weight, get the largest screen size you can. If you have the space, get a larger external monitor. PP is not a big load on CPU or on graphics cards but getting an i7 quad core CPU, 16G of internal memory and a decent graphics card will stave off your lap top becoming obsolescent down the road . PP does take up a substantial amount of storage space, large external drives are required. If you plan to travel with your lap top and do PP on the go, then a smaller, lighter unit would be a better choice. At home, I use a Dell desk top with a 24" HD monitor (I wish it was 27" or 32")
and a Dell Insperon 13 that fits in my camera backpack and weights 3.5 lbs. away from home. Do some research and find out what suits you best.

There is no skill or knowledge required to press a button. Without filters cell phones are just point and shoot.
Without a photographers eye for subject, lighting and composition, not camera will give you good results. As had been said many times, the best camera you have is the one you have with you when something interesting to shoot comes along. Most of us have are cell phones with us at all times. Do not put down point and shoot cameras just because they are not adjustable like DSLRs. Some of the most moving photos were taken with cameras that were far less capable than thoses in today's cell phones. Again, I say " It is the poor carpenter that blames his tools".

I agree with almost everything you say; but, but.... how far can you carry PP before the image is no longer a photograph? If you take a photo on high contrast film to get what essentially is a line drawing, and you then add color, is it still a photograph?

Artists can produce works by mixing a variety of materials and it might be called multi-media. Maybe we need a new term for extensively manipulated photographic images.

I am not sure there is a limit to PP that will move the observer. Look at impressionist painting by Renoir. The emotional reaction to the painting is from its technique, color and lighting. It is not a reflection of reality like a Gainsborough but is just as moving.

The first rule of Photography is that there are no rules. It doesn't matter how the photo was taken or how much PP is done. What matters is the reaction of the observer to the photo. If reality does not provide the desired reaction, then alter reality to get the desired results. When you look at Ansel Adam's dark room, you see how much PP he did to get his prints. Digital photography has given us the ability to do things in PP that was difficult, expensive or impossible with film.

Some like it hot, some like it cold, some like it in the pot, nine days old. You really cannot get good street photos in the wilderness. What matters is that the photo moves you and interests you. Some like BIF, others like landscapes. I happen to like portraits with interesting subjects and lighting. Everyone here has a personal preference for what they like to photograph but it doesn't mean that any location or subject is better than any other.

When Nikon talks about a shrinking market, they are talking about the total market for interchangeable lens cameras and lenses. They are saying that they (Nikon) is trying to get a bigger share of a smaller market. Today, I went to LEGOLAND with my grandchildren. The place was packed with little kids, parents and grandparents. I was the only one there taking photos with a real interchangeable lens camera. Everyone else was using their smart phones to take their photos. This is the problem that all camera manufacturers face. Every year smart phone cameras get better while improvements in DSLRs are incremental. This is why the market is shrinking. Only a small number of dedicated photographers will buy these dedicated cameras in the future.
