Depends on what you like to photograph.

Get a citibike license and you can tool around the city.

Here are a few-
Central Park may be in bloom depending on when you are here.
Times Square (of course)
The west side bike path up to the base of the George Washington Bridge (little red lighthouse there)
NYC stuff - http://www.uglyhedgehog.com/t-520680-1.html#8830046
Sunrise from Morningside drive overlooking Morningside Park (adjacent to Columbia)

How about Columbia University? C.U. has some great architecture. Harlem too. In fact, that whole area has some great, classic architecture.
One caveat...be mindful of your camera & streets you're on. Try not to travel alone. Groups are best.
If you have the time, venture downtown to see the rest of Manhattan. There's more there than you'll have time for.

Unless you are looking to shoot what everybody else shoots, just walk with your eyes open. Go in a different direction each day. You will probably come back with the most interesting set of images compared to the typical tourist.

Grand central terminal is great. There are many churches. I like the top of the rock for best elevated views of city. Reflecting pond at one world one. The double decker hop on hop off busses are great for first day will get you around to many different areas. Circle line cruise in good weather is also a good alternative. If you have extra money you can stop at Adorama and B&H.

How many raindrops are in a bucket of water?? There are a ton of things to see and shoot. Find your way to Brooklyn Heights. Walk down Monique St and get on the Promenade. The views straight across and left and right are worth the trip. Night time is fantastic.
Columbia is class A institution in a much less class A neighborhood....... https://www.nycgo.com/articles/photogenic-nyc-slideshow

If you enjoy street photography, don’t miss Chinatown and The Lower East Side. Brooklyn also has some amazing areas. Are you getting the sense that 5 days doesn’t touch the surface. Consider a bus tour so you know where to come back to on your next visit

I was going to suggest Central Park at night, but you probably want to return to Florida.

My son goes to Manhattan every few weeks just to take pictures, and he hasn't exhausted all the possibilities.

These links could keep a photographer busy for a year.

Take the free Staten Island ferry from lower Manhattan an hour or so before sundown, after landing at the island, turn around and take the ferry back to Manhattan and you will have the Manhattan skyline, Statue of Liberty lighting up as the darkness sets in. A view of NYC from the water is an interesting sight.

Used to live in the neighborhood. A few blocks away is Cathedral of St John Devine with beautiful garden and statue. Also Riverside Park along the hudson River is great this time of year. When hungry go to V &T Pizza on Amsterdam Ave between 110th and 111th St, almost across the street from the Cathedral gardens.
