An evocative image, John. And I am thoroughly enjoying it. It does bring back the scene from Our Town. I didn't appreciate the theatrics of it at the time I first studied it (I was maybe 14). But now, the words Emily asks, "does anyone truly understand the value of life while they live it" make total sense to me and I would probably answer the same as the Stage Manager. This photo encompasses all that is small town America.
Hi Carla. I appreciate your thoughtful comment. I read the play in high school English and didn’t really get it. When I was in my thirties, a girl I was friendly with in high school passed away and left behind her husband, also a classmate, and two young sons. The play came back to me then and has stayed with me ever since. I’ve kept a copy of the play all these years. The Emily I knew was named Donna. Thanks for stopping by, Carla.
