I consider myself as being a Photo Enthusiast; not a Professional. Ive been snapping pictures since being a kid (Kodak Box Brownie, Argus C3, etc.). Got into interchangeable lenses (Canon) about three years ago. I presently use a Canon 60D which I love for its versatility and I will keep it for a backup. Now, in my old age I will be doing mostly travel and landscapes and I am considering a full frame Canon with a zoom lens with emphasis on wide FOV (small mm). I have a Canon EF-S 10mm 22 mm which is great with the 60D but not adaptable to a FF.

I am not familiar with the other brands (Tamron, etc.) of competitive equivalent lens and would appreciate comments from owners of same. Incidentally, I favor 77mm filter sizes on most of my lens.

I have been using Canon 60D with the 24-105 mm L lens on the frame most of the time. Excellent glass. Suggest you consider Canon refurbished at $781.
Hey Folks!
Thanks for all of the great (and sometimes realistic) feedback. That said, I am going to retire my 60D in favor of purchasing a weatherproof, bullet proof and ground proof FF camera, along with a padded sleeping bag, android phone, DSLR controller and OTG cable. I guess that some good options actually exist. Thanks again. (Webby)

I have used the 60D for a a year and truly like it. I especially value the tilt (articulating) screen and the ability to use the wireless flash trigger to fire my off-camera speedlite flashes. I use the model for GENERAL photography, but never movie video. I keep track of the most recent CANON up grades. From my perspective, the new 7D does not offer compensating features to overcome those already accorded me on the 60D. However, YOU might have different photographic priorities from a new upgrade.,..... Good luck on your quest!

I understand and agree with your observation. I am especially careful with my 60D in this regard. Further, it is probably a good marketing decision by CANON not to incorporate the fragile articulating screen onto their otherwise strong and weather-dust-moisture-proof FF body line. If I live long enough and wish to use a FF body for my general photography, especially landscapes I will purchase a FF body such as 6D and keep my 60D for "on the ground-level" nature work. I also like the 60D because it will wirelessly trigger my external speedite flashes without need for an outboard flash trigger. Thanks for your feedback.
I am using a CANON 60D and especially appreciate the tilting screen when horizontally focusing upon ground level nature subjects. (At 82 years, it is difficult for an old man to frequently lay down on my stomach.) Does anyone out there know that CANON might someday introduce a Full Frame model with the tilting (articulating) screen?
I shoot many sailboat races using Canon 60D, 100-400 zoom, spot focus, and shutter speeds at least 1/2000. I goose the ISO if necessary, usually at 800. Seldom get a blurry or out of focus image. Shooting fast moving images on the seas while also from a rocky platform is a challenge. Good luck.
Look at it this way: If there were no Sigmas and Tamarons out there, NIKON and CANON would have less incentive to put R&D into developing more superior products. We are all beneficiaries of a competitive technology.
I am also using the 24-105 mounted on a D60. Love it. Am waiting (and waiting and waiting) for CANON to introduce a CANON FF with an articulating monitor. That is my wish list!
Astounding series of shots. I have neighbors with humming bird feeders on both sides of my residence. Thanks for the hint on settings ISO and shutter speed. Am using 60D and also have the CANON L 100mm-400mm lens. I often use this lens for recording sailboat races 0.5 miles away. With a firm stable tripod of course.
