Enthusiast, but not a Professional . . . Need lens recommendation

I consider myself as being a “Photo Enthusiast”; not a Professional. I’ve been snapping pictures since being a kid (Kodak Box Brownie, Argus C3, etc.). Got into interchangeable lenses (Canon) about three years ago. I presently use a Canon 60D which I love for its versatility and I will keep it for a backup. Now, in my old age I will be doing mostly travel and landscapes and I am considering a full frame Canon with a zoom lens with emphasis on wide FOV (small mm). I have a Canon EF-S 10mm – 22 mm which is great with the 60D but not adaptable to a FF.

I am considering purchasing a refurbished Canon 5D MkII along with a refurbished Canon EF 17-40mm f/4L.
I am not familiar with the other brands (Tamron, etc.) of competitive equivalent lens and would appreciate comments from owners of same. Incidentally, I favor 77mm filter sizes on most of my lens.

If you do not mind being seen with an older Tamron lens, or saving money, the SP 20-40 F2.7-3.5 aspherical is a good lens for the money - I would get it from KEH ....I have one and use it on FF Canon ( film). Gets good owner's reviews on line.

I responded to this question in another posting. Look at KEH as used lenses are the way to go.

Thanks. I have sold to KEH, but have yet to buy. They send a representative down to Johnson Photography, Sarasota, FL twice a year to buy our stuff. I also check Adorama and B&H. -- Webby

You could try Photo4less.com
I have made good purchases from there. Including dedicated and Tamron lenses for my Canon.

Hi webby, welcome to the hog. If you are looking for another lens, tell us what kind of shooting you propose to do...that will determine the lens you might want.

Welcome to UHH Webby. Can't help you with the Canon question as I shoot Nikon. Seems you are on the right track though, B&H, Adorama & KEH. Also try refurbished. Enjoy the forum. Some very nice shots in you flicker posts.
