Is this the VR version? I can't read the data on the lens in the picture.

Sorry to hear that happen. I live in an urban area and "porch shopping" is a well-known practice.
It won't help with this event, but I do one of two things: have it delivered to my office, or have it held at a near-by UPS service center for pickup.

If you are in a smaller community, an option might be to work with a local shop owner to hold deliveries for you. Not as convenient, and maybe not a viable option for you.

Good luck with the resolution.

I have my expensive items delivered to my local UPS store. It costs $5 but is worth it. Biggest problem is the sellers that will only ship to the PayPal address. When the seller makes that rule I just move on, there are always other deals.

Ms. Jersey,
Besides all of the great advice you are getting I suggest you find a photography group and shoot with them before you purchase. Many of the members I shoot with started with the group while using their cell phone. You will see that the camera does not take the picture. But, there are personal styles and likes that you will be exposed to that can help with the decision on what to buy.
If you are in the Jacksonville area we have many groups for you. I live in Yulee which is north of Jax and our group is very active.

With the most sincere respect, I think UHH members have gone totally nuts preparing for an event where the so-called "totality" will last just a few minutes tho the "waxing/waning" will be a bit longer. Numerous professional scientists will be recording images with extremely high grade cameras and telescopes, and those images will be published in every way possible around the world. /Ralph

I had my d750 serviced by Nikon in Melville NY, not being to far from my home I dropped it off there. One week later a Nikon tech call and said my camera was ready to pick up. I had asked him how many shutter activation he told me around 12,000, I asked if the shutter activations could be reset to zero, the response of THAT'S A GOOD QUESTION, kind of startled me. he just told me to subtract 12,000 off the count.

But all in all camera was updated and everything seems to be working perfectly.

Over all a good experience.

In all of my reading it seems that the shops NEVER reset the shutter count. The tech has no reason to look at it anyway. I suppose if the processor is replaced you would have a reset count.

Lame Duck,
You forgot the most important piece of gear - the device on your shoulders!

Rohn...I was shooting yesterday with a Canon 1D X and my old faithful Canon EF 400mm f/5.6L lens. It's still the cheapest L series long distance telephoto lens on the market. I also use a Canon 7DII, but I find myself preferring the full frame cameras over the crop factor APS-C sensor 7DII. Don't get me wrong, I still use the 7DII a lot and would recommend it in a heart beat. Crop factor cameras like the 7DII do give you more long distance magnification. For example, the 400 mm lens on my 1D X give me 8X magnification, whereas my 7DII having a crop factor, gives me a magnification of 12.8X using the same 400mm lens. That is quite a significant difference between the two cameras. But when you consider image quality, the full frame 1D X is somewhat better in my opinion. Both cameras are used by very well know bird and wildlife photographers, and both do a great job.

I think that anyone who earns a living as a photographer is a pro. But that definition says nothing about the quality of the work. There is also something called a semi-pro. I don't know how to define that, becuse I don.t know what a semi-living is.

Try this test, place camera on tripod, stabilization on and live view. Watch the image! Then turn stabilization off. I was shocked. Stabilization is off now when I use the tripod or high shutter speeds.

I'm heading to the Galapogos Islands and only want to take one lens. The TAMRON 16-300mm Di II VC PZD Macro was recommended to me. Anyone have any experience with this lens?

I have had my Tamron 16-300 almost two years. I love the zoom range and as a result I use it as my every day lens. But, as others have mentioned it is not as sharp as my Nikon 18-200 and other lenses. Also it does not focus quickly in certain situations like BIF.

I found that the AF fine tune on my D7000 helped greatly. I used 100mm as my "tunepoint". See the attached picture and you decide if it is sharp enough.
For my purposes the macro works fine.
