The last two times we had partial eclipses in Connecticut, the weather was very, very cloudy. It got dark during the eclipse, but you couldn't see anything happen. The upcoming eclipse will only be partial in CT, but will it be cloudy???? How about where you are????

You can guarantee that it may be cloudy. How much is a different issue. What you do about it is your concern. On the other hand you could keep a keen eye out for those vapor trails coming from the general direction of North Korea, and keep a paper bag handy to put over your head in case you have to kiss your ass goodbye!

I wonder how many people are traveling someplace to see the the total eclipse, maybe reserving overpriced accommodations, and won't end up being able to see it.

Maybe 50% as a starting guess!

(Singing...badly) Que Sera Sera, will it be cloudy? Will it be bright? Whatever will be will be...

With the most sincere respect, I think UHH members have gone totally nuts preparing for an event where the so-called "totality" will last just a few minutes tho the "waxing/waning" will be a bit longer. Numerous professional scientists will be recording images with extremely high grade cameras and telescopes, and those images will be published in every way possible around the world. /Ralph

Yep, and some will be silly enough to point a camera with a big ass lens on it at the sun with an optical viewfinder. The eye doesn't have the right kind of nerves in it to detect damage, but it can detect heat. You need to close your eye and stop before it boils! Who gives a rat's a**e about a camera.

Been there and survived that in the UK in August 1999, be very careful.

It looks as if some areas will have some cloud coverage during the eclipse.

Heard this many times before. It's an argument against photographing any popular event or landmark. But the counter argument is that it's my take on the shot, I do it for fun or profit, and it's my business. If I ask for advice on how to do it, please provide that advice. Personally, I don't care if anyone has taken that shot before me; it's my turn and I'm taking my shot.

I didn't know the technology existed to accurately for cast the weather more than a couple few days in advance.
As long as there are Australian butterflies, accurately forcasting the weather more than three days in advance is nearly as good as simply guessing.

Ya, the accuracy of the forcast this far in advance is suspect.

That's fine, if that's how you want to spend your time and money. Me, I'm always looking for a slightly different angle on things; if "totality" were coming through my area, I'd be looking for a way to get images of the chasers. I keep hearing that this is a special event, but all the planning I hear of is trying to do what NASA can do better.

It depends on who's there. Some people have dark clouds that follow them everywhere.

To each their own. If you are not interested in the event then fine, that's your prerogative and that's okay. Other people are interested in it and if they want to take pictures of the eclipse, that's OK also, regardless of whether NASA can do it better.
