Did you set the aperture at f/22 and lock it "before" you put the lens on the camera? If so, the camera's front command dial should then control the aperture in an appropriate mode.

No I did not. Thanks.

In order for the camera to shoot in auto or even Aperture Priority the aperture ring must be locked in @ f22.

I have my camera set on manual settings with auto focus turned on at the camera.

I recently bought a lens on Ebay, a Nikon 50 mm, 1.8. There was no owners manual to go with it of course. To my question, there is a small locking mechanism, which according to what I read on Internet, should be locked while the aperture is set to f22. When I do this, I can't change the aperture with my dial or manually. If it is unlocked, I must manually rotate the aperture ring and I get half of the aperture, 0 at the large end and f11 at the small end. What am I missing here? I'm using a Nikon D7100.

See if you can get some of the wood, it'll make great framing for photos.

Thanks for looking everyone. They're fun to watch and photograph. They are a challenge to get good photos though.

The crane migration through Nebraska is winding down. It's an amazing sight to see all the cranes coming and going from the river. They spend their nights on the river and when the sun comes up they move to the fields to eat. At night they move back to the river in huge flocks that blacken the skies. Photo opportunities are endless.

No, Mike,
I wasn't in Nebraska. I'da called you if I'd been going there!
That image was from wintering crane population at Bosque del Apache NWR in New Mexico, in January, three years ago. it was an image I had marked as a "possible" to work on as the spirit and time permitted. They finally did...and I'm glad I did!

Best,
Dave

Too bad you couldn't get down here for the migration. It's an amazing sight to see all the cranes leave the river in the morning and see them all come back at sundown. Take care of yourself.

OK Dave, first of all if you came to Nebraska and didn't let me know... I'm disappointed. I love the interaction of the birds, it's natural and the way wildlife should be. I like that the 2 subjects are in good focus and the birds in the background are just that, background. For anyone who has photographed these birds, it's tricky trying to get more than 1 bird in focus at a time. I just wish that the bottom birds wing didn't get cut off. Thanks for sharing Dave.

Not an expert but I have the lens for my D7100 and love it. If you go to my sites on the tag line you can see some photos. But realize that at the long end of the lens, it starts getting soft focus. It's also not the fastest lens, so depending on what you are photographing or conditions you shoot in, that will make a difference in how satisfied you are with the lens. Good luck.

I use the D7100 with the tamron 150-600 and find that the photos are pretty good most of the time. BIF is tricky, settings are going to change with conditions and subject matter. SS mode is probably the easiest, set your speed for what you need, stopped motion or a little wing blur. Leave the ISO at a relatively low number, if you leave it on Auto ISO your ISO will end up pretty high. I use spot metering, 51 point focusing, AF-C. I've tried the 3D tracking and didn't have much luck. To get the most of BIF you need to practice panning. Good Luck.

Thanks for the responses. I have 5 programs that I can run independently, PSCS6, PS CC, Bridge CS6 and Bridge CC along with LR5. My biggest question, does PS CC have more upgrades than the PS CS6? Is the PS CC just an upgraded version therefore rendering my PS CS 6 "outdated"? And is there a difference in the 2 Bridge programs?

The title looks like a gov't program. Sorry about that. On to my questions. I have PS CS6 on my computer. I just signed up for PS CC and I'm wondering what the difference is, if any. I also have Bridge on my computer and got Bridge CC and added Lightroom with my subscription. I have all the icons on my toolbar and wonder if the PS programs are identical and are Bridge programs identical. And if there is a difference, what is it? Thanks in advance for any help.

Looks like a manhole cover in the sidewalk.
