Why did you take the lens hood off? It is there for a reason.

I was taking pictures indoor in very tight space. Going outside I did not take the time to put it on.

I think it's lens flare. Light bouncing around inside the lens.

That maybe the answer, but all the pictures have the spots at the same location no matter location of the sun, camera, etc.

Can someone explain what caused these spots? They seem to go away after a couple hours. I was shooting in full sun light without the lens hood. The spots showed up after taking a several outside pictures and stayed in the same place on all the pictures until I went in doors and took more pictures about a hour later. I did not turn the camera off. Camera is a D7000 with 18-300mm lens.
Thanks for any help you can provide.

Great shots. I experienced a gray overcast day recently ands the only way I could get any DOF was to pump up the ISO. If you don't mind, what was yours for these great shots?

I started out using ISO 2200 with Expo Mode set to Shutter Priority. For these pictures I dropped ISO down to 400 and was still able to shoot at 1/1000s and f/18. I was maybe 50-70 feet from the subject. I was really lucky to get these shoots.

Sorry to disappoint the military personnel. This female Osprey put on a great show for me today. Overcast day, D7000 18-300mm f/18 1/1000 I was pleased with the results.

Chris, a friend of mine does this for rescue dogs. She is an excellent photographer. Check out her web site:

I am married to the most wonderful woman in the world...I will preface this post with that statement. First my story, then my question. My wife has the most genuine heart when it comes to animals in need. We has so many rescues that if you were to ask my how many, I would have to take roll. I have tried to slow her down by telling her that every time she brought home another rescue that I was going to buy a new lens...doesn't seem to stop her...now the question. I have seen a couple of posts on UHH where people volunteer to photograph animal shelter animals. We have the equipment to make some nice images of these animals. I would ask that anyone with prior experience with this please post here and give advice as to how you went about this...photo selection...I know I will not reduce the animal population at home now, but if we can reduce future strays, I may be able to go on vacation without hiring a pet sitter.

I would go with #1, the colors just scream "look at me." It reminds me of a line from The Color Purple about pissing God off if you ignore a purple flower in a field....

Thanks Steve, yes lots of purple!

#1-the deep purple against the black. Nice.

Yes, the flower was in full sun and a shadow just to the back which I could take advantage of. Thanks for looking.

I like including the house. Adds to the interest.

Thanks, that confirms it should stay in the photo.

Nicely atmospheric. Possibly could benefit from a little cropping on the right side.

Thanks Rob. I can't decide of the the house on the left should be taken out. BTW, I grew up in that house, so I may have some bias.
I did very little crop so far and also took out a post on the right side.
