that's exactly how I burned them. They were on Memorex which I thought was a good company but they were DVD+R discs. What should they be on?

I was on the site last week with a problem reading photos stored on a disc. What is recomended as the best way to put images into long term storage.
The end of every year I like to clear my desktop and start new in January. I have been storing them on discs. Some of my images are HDR with a Nikon D800 so needless to say they use a lot of megapixels. HDR or not I try to keep each file at 100 photos or less. Otherwise, it seems to take forever to open the file up if I want to use it later. I have friends using SD cards, thumb drives and I'm using discs. Your thoughts about which is preferred would be appreciated. I shoot in raw but I usually only store finished JPEG images if that makes any difference. I shoot for my own pleasure and donate some images to local groups for fundraisers.

unfortunately my computerize leaves a lot to be desired. I'm not sure how to put an image on here. I'm an older film guy still getting used to digital. What is the best to use when saving images or sending large groups of images to friends. my main camera is a D800 so sometimes the files can be quite large even in JPEG ?

I was shooting with a D7000 and a D7100

Shot vacation photos with my Nikon set to raw. after processing them and saving the final product as JPEG files I burned them to a disc to share with friends
when my friends tried to open the files, on PCs, they were only able to view the first of 30 pictures. did I do something wrong ?

I was there two weeks ago. fantastic. the extra focal length comes in handy if you are shooting the birds coming to the nest in flight. I used the 80 - 400 on a D7100

at least with a portable generator, it is important to run it periodically during the year with something drawing power from it. don't just set aside for a rainy day and forget about it. mine started just fine after 18 months but wouldn't brighten a light bulb until I had it serviced. Now I make sure to use it for something a couple times per year

thanks for the input. I'll be looking into a higher quality and thinner polarizer for the times when I really want it

Whenever I use a polarizer on my 24-70 Nikon lens set at 24mm I get vignetting and uneven polarization in the picture with one side definitely showing it more than the other. Is there a "best" polarizer to use with this lens ? what about using polarizers on even wider lenses ? Do they make such filters ?

I think you hit it on the head. I did find it in scene setting at one point. The must have been when I took those shots. To me that's always been a problem with the 7000 ) the dial is too easy to move inadvertently. Does that mean I shouldn't have a GAS attack and upgrade ? (lol)

It's the second time it has happened. Both times I was in a wet environment and shut the camera off and returned it to my bag to keep it dry between shots. It's my knock around camera...out in the boat, hunting in the bogs of Newfoundland... I already have a 7100 and an 800. Maybe it's time to make the 7100 my knock around camera and pass this to one of my grandchildren. I feel a gas attack coming. Now what do I replace my 7100 with ? Used mostly for wildlife with an 80 - 400 Nikon. Suggestions???

For some unknown reason my D7000 has recorded a couple images out of 50 in JPEG while the camera was set for RAW, The images were in the middle of the 50. Any idea as to how?

There is a lot of weather issues to consider in Alaska. I would definitely carry two bodies w/ wide angle zoom and telephoto zoom. I'm a Nikon user so which lenses are best for you I'll leave up to you. There is so much to see and photograph wherever you go that you'll be grateful you have both. Changing lenses in fog, drizzle, wind... is not something you'll want to do.

I've taken many trips to "paradise" and carried a lot of gear. The main reason for a big telephoto there is whale watching and they won't be there in August. Even when they are (Dec - March) a medium telephoto is enough. A tripod is a more important piece of equipment to bring. Some of the best photo opportunities will come during times of low light (sunrise on the volcano...sunset on the beach...)
