Over the years I purchased about 10 Nikon lenses and one Tokina lens on eBay. As suggested earlier, look at the buyer's ratings and read some of the eBay'ers comments about their transactions. I bought two from sellers with no or little history, but I made out. I review the ad and photos extensively and listen to my common sense. Besides, eBay handles complaints very well.

You can save a lot of money buying used, but "let the buyer beware."

Yes, the camel is very sharp. I may keep that lens and get an FX-based wide-angle zoom.

Thanks for your input. I'm looking at all options ... a long process to getting the right lens(es).

I think the second one would have been better if you focused on the child's eyes instead of the swing. It might have unintentional, though.

Good idea. I have a Nikon DX 18-70 that feels right at home on the D90.

Thanks. I did notice the Tokina's range is too short. I'm going to look into the 28-300 and the 10-24, as I'm thinking about the D600 when it comes out.

For my Nikon D90, I have a Tokina 11-16 f/2.8, a Nikon 18-70 3.5-4.5, and a Nikon 70-300 f/4.5-5.6 VRII (among others). I'm thinking about replacing all three with Nikon's new 18-300 VRII, as I rarely use the Tokina.

Does anyone have experience with this new Nikon lens? Thanks.

If I had to choose, I'd pick the light one. But if I had my druthers, I'd choose one in between the two. The first one looks good, but the background is too light. The second one has good contrast, but the background is too rich.

I have two experiences. I bought a new Nikon 35-70 f/2.8D AF. It arrived in a white box with instructions. It worked fine. I also purchased a exerciser for the upper body; I never received it, but received a prompt refund.

I would steer clear of Hong Kong vendors.

All three are good. Number 2 is an excellent photo!

You say you can't decide whether or not to use this photo for a contest. Do you have others? I like the composition, but the image looks flat. Maybe it's just me, but I think the head looking level or up would be better.

That being said, it's certainly good enough to enter a contest. If you enter, you have a chance of winning; if you don't ... well, you know the rest.

The 35mm lens, after multiplying it by 1.5 (crop factor for a DX camera), is a little over 50mm, which is considered "normal" (lifesize). The 50mm will be about 75mm, a good portrait length.

I own the 35mm lens. Using it for head shots of people will bring distortion into the frame. It's best used for full-body shots. If I could only buy one lens, it would be either the 35mm or a good zoom.

I saw in an earlier post in which a member stated that macro is defined as 1:1. Unless you're dealing with commercial requirements, such as life-size images for ads, it really doesn't matter. If you want macro images, buy a macro lens. I have a Nikon 60mm 2.8D, and it works just fine.

Nice photos. I really don't care what category it would be included.

And I think we can put an end to all of the negativity. I just like to share ideas and look/share images. Thank you.
