Just wonddered if any one had any experience with buying from e-bay direct from HongKong?

Thinking of sellers like this.
5D MkIII body for a little over £2000.
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Canon-EOS-5D-Mark-III-Mark-3-DSLR-Body-gifts-IN-STOCK-WUT6-/261032047406?pt=UK_CamerasPhoto_DigitalCameras_DigitalCameras_JN&hash=item3cc6b8f32e#ht_4179wt_1388.

OK no need to mention the lack of warranty etc, i understand all of that, I was just wondered if anyone had trid one of these sellers. Real Canon or knock off's?

Not tried one but the first part of your question should be enough in your own mind (that you even had to question it) to give you the answer to steer you away. If you are dishing out good hard earned money you want some sort of come back. AND... not the type of come back that takes weeks per message between comunications. I have purchased some smaller items of such nature and when they failed I never got anywhere and took months to get there. If they were copies they looked legit but who knows? I am out of pocket now!

OK, I'll admit it. I have purchased items on e-Bay from Hong Kong. But only for small low cost items. I have never had a problem but it sometimes takes months for things to arrive.

That being said, I knew I was gambling, but it was worth the risk given e-Bay's buyer protection policy and the low low cost of the items I ordered (under 10$).

But for a DSLR body?!! NOT ON YOUR LIFE! Run, don't walk, but run away from this foolish notion!!

I was considering buying from a Hong Kong dealer but I would never turn to ebay to do that... After doing some research especially on how they handle warranty problems this is what I decided to probably be the best company to deal with...

http://www.digitalrev.com/

I ended up buying a used camera locally but were I to consider a grey market purchase I think that I would use these people..

You can also see them on YouTube as they have a lot of their own equipment reviews posted there....

Just a thought: Are taxes/import duties included? Who pays? Don't know the tax situation across the pond on that camera.

Saw a recent post re: Canon has reduced the price of the MIII in Canada to ~$2900-3000 which would put it less than £2000.

Ah well. That is great then, because your link is the same seller I linked to on Ebay, so I get the added ebay buyer protection too

Will have to seriously consider it.

Yes the warranty thing is annissue, but not such a great one,

What I did to learn about them was do a google search on customer reviews for that company and found sites where I could read actual customer reviews.... I even found some people that had been pretty upset but when they came to find out how digitalrev actually works through the warranty repair they better understood and were more accepting of the process... as I recall the product is either serviced in your market but you have to follow a very strict authorization process, or you can have them at their expense ship your item back to Hong Kong, have the warranty work done there and then shipped back to you.... I also read that they will handle the duties... but I would be careful because I am not sure that is what their advertising states... Take the time to research them a little better, I got back good information when i simply did the search on google... You should also watch some of their youtube reviews... they are not like many of the NY closet shops..

Well no one has once said they are either cheap rip offs or similar or scams, so that is a good thing, that is what I was concerned about, or maybe they wrre selling 'factory seconds' that failed QC.

I have bought numerous cameras over the years, and never had an warranty claims, so I feel not having a local warrantyand saving over £1000 is worth it.
Any camera damage I have had in the past had been accidental, and covered under my own insurance policy any how

Good luck, I kinda feel the same way they should be the same product, it is not like Canon makes different product for different markets the warranty thing is to protect the importer..

i have bought several small inexpensive items from china and hong kong filters adaptor rings etc i live in the uk and items have always arrived within 10 days some sellers mark items as gifts so no duty payable but i think it could be a massive risk with that kind of money might not even be canon original

I've bought lenses direct from Camera Paradise in Hong Kong without any problems. Check out their website http://cameraparadise.com/en/index/index.php and you'll see that their price for the 5D Mk III body is cheeper than Digital Rev. Also, Camera Paradise advertises no duty to the UK or Australia. I've not paid any duties on my Canon lenses purchased from them. Good luck with your research and ultimate purchase.

I have been buying from various places in China for about ten years now - big and small items. Bodies, lenses, brand name filters, spare batteries etc.All through EBay.
Good news is I have never had a problem with anything so the warranty thing has not mattered.
However, here in the UK the carrier, UPS or DFL bill you far the taxes we pay here after the item arrives so check out what the import duty/taxes for your country first.
Here (Scotland) it is still usually cheaper.

Yes I have bought from Hong Kong, each ebay seller has a history and a rating, so that is the first thing to check. Make sure that they have been arround for some time and that the feedback rating is 95% +, it's easy to check on their profile. My experiences all turned out ok so I have no complaints. Here in Aus import duties are applicable for purchases over $1000, but in my experience HK sellers usually avoid this by under valuing the purchase price on import documents. I have noticed the price for 5D mk111 is coming down, so it might be worth watching for awhile? Good luck.

The warranty and resale are two concerns. If it does not have a US warranty, it is gray market. I turned down a D7000 for $832 because it was gray market. I would not be able to get firmware upgrades, repairs, or even customer support from Nikon. If you sell the camera, you would have to tell the buyer that it was graymarket. I haven't needed any Nikon repairs service in 30 years of owning them, but I do want to get upgrades.

Digitalrev is offering the D7000 for only $100 less than I could buy it here.
