As always "Let the buyer beware" saying is alive and well. I was in the photography business for 17 years. I learned my craft so that I could do "good work" and charge the "better" prices. I never wanted to cheat customers and never did I want them to feel cheated. So I always had printed price lists for everything that I did. My prices were an open book. And to this day (I'm 80 now) I will not hire anybody for anything without knowing what it will cost in advance. I'm sorry for these people that get taken advantage of. But at least part of the problem when that happens is that they are perhaps naive and too trusting.
Wouldn't it be a wonderful world if everyone was honest!

My 1st car was a 49' Ford coupe with 6 cylinder engine. Had tranny trouble with it. Otherwise many high school memories.

Extremely interesting story that I never before read. Thanks for sharing.

Cholly, I have read the interesting comparison you suggested and agree with everything you say. Those are the very reasons that I favor the a6000. I also think that the Zeiss lens I originally inquired about is very fine lens at a very fine price as one would expect. But a couple of responders indicated that they think it is too big and heavy for the a6000. I realize that around $200. usually gets one a poor quality lens -- but many opinions of this (Sigma 19mm) lens owners in Amazon.com comments say that it is a very good lens and they think it out performs many much more expensive lenses. Anyway I think $200. isn't too much to spend for a temporary lens. I'm still pondering and thinking and not in a rush to buy. Again -- thanks for your input.

Cholly -- your points are well taken. It is a dilemma. I have not bought the a6000 yet. It looks like a great choice in a body. However I am not thrilled in the choice of lenses for this body (particularly the kit lens of which I've read some criticism). I am also considering Olympus OM ED-10 (great lens choices between Olympus and Panasonic) and Sony RX100 111 which of course is a fixed lens. My choice will be the a6000 if I can zero in on lenses. Thanks for your input.

Thank you all for your wonderful response. I have read that the kit lens is a so-so lens quality wise. I am looking for a alternative choice. "Perhaps" the Sigma 19mm which seems to be great lens for the price (around $200.) -- and then wait for a better alternative to the kit lens when it shows up. Again I'm open to any ideas as to a alternative lens to the kit lens.
Thanks, Morry

Has anyone used a Sony a6000 with a Zeiss 24-70mm zoom lens. Did you think the lens was worth the very high price? Any other thoughts would be appreciated.

My ship USS Boston CAG-1, (guided missile cruiser) 1st operational guided missile ship in the world operated with the Forestal during the 1955-1957 period of time from time to time. The Forestal was regarded as the very latest in aircraft carriers at that time. Sorry to hear that it is in the shape it is now in. I served on the Boston for about 2 years as a LI3 (Lithographer). I believe the Boston was broken up in the early seventies. Morry

I too have one of these old 180mm Nikkor-P Auto lens (ser. # 320447) which I picked up for $50 used with original Nikkor leather case maybe 25 or 30 years ago and never found a use for it. Mine does show its use as it was used by the photographers at The Seattle Times for years. It was a very highly regarded lens by pros at one time. Mine has good glass but the built-in shade is gone. I have held onto it thinking I might one day find a use for it -- but that day has yet to come. I'm not sure which digital if any Nikon bodies this lens will still work on without have some kind of modification to the mount. I understand that this is arguably the sharpest lens ever in the Nikon stable of lens.

Picasa gets my vote also. Easy to use and short learning curve. I only wish they would do a better job on RAW!

There used to be another way. I'm old enough to remember what was know as Fair Trade Laws. It worked somewhat this way. Most quality products had a fair trade price. This was apparently set by the manufacturer or distributor. Retail stores that bought from these suppliers had to adhere the preset Fair Trade Law. The overall result of this was that everyone sold most things at the same price. Yes there were occasional legitimate advertised sales. Retailers would compete on the basis of the quality of the service that they offered. Large chain stores increased their profit margins by buying in bulk at a "bulk price". This system seemed to work well for everyone. In those days I remember many camera stores in Seattle (where I lived most of my life) and many camera stores made a nice living. Then came discount stores. They would hang propaganda signs in their entry ways in the store promoting the advantage to consumers to push their local politicians to do away with the Fair Trade Laws which they said was the reason for their favorite merchandise higher prices. Well as they say -- "everything that comes around goes around. Personally I would like to see the fair trade laws return.

Be wary about off brand printer ink. I have two Epson printers. One is an old RX600 that used to accept InkFarm printer ink. I'm not sure that it still will. The other printer is a Artisian 730. I tried InkFarm ink and the printer told me that it would not accept it and it refused to run. InkFarm was good about a refund as they originally said it would work OK in the Artisian 730. Apparently the large printer companies like Epson and HP have the ability to stop your printer from running if you don't use their brand of ink (that's what I am told anyway).
Good luck.

There used to be a 34 page "Picasa 3.6 user's manual" on the web for free. It can be downloaded by calling in:
