For sports I shoot jpeg always the largest and best quality file.
there is no punishment. Not having a machine june or assault rifle is a punishment??? By the way New York city is one of the safest cities in the country.
I haven't read all the responses. I live very close to NYC and I agree with Mayor Bloomberg's stance on gun control. I have done target shooting and it was fun and I understand hunting even though I'd rather shoot animals with a camera.
Why does anyone need an assault rifle or the type of amp that shot the people in Arizona.
If machine guns,assault rifles etc were really banned we wouldn't have so many massacres. We have better control of cars than guns. Maybe we should all have our own tanks.
B&H also buys used equipment.

Upgrade if you can. you will not regret it. You spent a lot for the laptop. I know I ordered one. As my mother would say don't be penny wise and pound foolish.
The 17-50mm 2.8 is around $600. Since you can keep glass forever wait to purchase until you can afford more-my opinion.
Try exposing for the statue and add flash for the foreground.

The best on camera flash book I've ever read (I didn't read A Speedlighter's Handbook-I shoot Nikon) is On Camera Flash by, Neil Van Niekerk. I've read it several times and still need to reread it. Bryan Peterson's Understanding Exposure is a great book not so Understanding Flash.
I'm a Nikon shooter, but I like Canon P&S I was a media specialist in a school and always bought Canon P&S. I think I'll go with the G12. I hardly use a 200mm zoom. I think a G12 is a great 1st camera.
