Has anyone sold any equipment to Adorama? They are telling me they pay .70 on the dollar for current market value. Usually if it sounds too good to be true, it is. I just don't want to mail off my equipment only to see it disappear. Thanks.

I have sold to Adorama in the past. I don't know anything about .70 on the dollar. You send your equipment in and they will give you a quote. It was a matter of days when I received a check.

I recently sold/traded a Canon d40 plus 5 lens and was paid an excellent rate. I was not impressed with their email response times though. I was told by the nice salesperson I would get an estimate in 5 working days and it took 7 days to just acknowledge the gears arrival! (It just sat there) it then took 5 more days to get a call with the dollar amount which was very fair in my opinion. I left several messages with the proper department that went un answered. The pay off ended up being worth it in the end. I would do business with them again. The customer service department was very apologetic.

That's true. But what they fail to mention is that the "fair market price" is not actually what they list on their website for comparable used equipment or the general going price. Their "fair" price is already deeply discounted. And then they pay you 70% of that. So you end up getting maybe 50% of the actual market price for your item.

Aside from that one little fact, their service is awesome. They take care of all shipping. And if you don't like their estimate, then they promise to return the item back to you. I have no reason not to trust them on that one although I never checked.

the fact of the matter is like any electronic device unless its a collectable ( leica, hassenblad, rare gold plated nikon etc) camera equipment depreciates like a car. See how much you can get for a 5 year old computer? You don't want to risk selleing to a con man on ebay, well that will cost you.

I sent about 3 grand worth of canon gear to Adorma, they have had it for 2 weeks, I have not heard anything except stock emails. I am starting to get concerned. Dont return my phone calls.

It should be 70% of the current expected re-sale value. However, you can't always rely on the curent prices on our website. We have to re-sell to ensure we recover what we've paid for an item. So if the market is soft, ie, flooded with an item you want to trade, we can't continue to pay what we might have paid for a similar unit 3 months ago.

I sometimes receive emails from customers who tell me they can see the item they sold to us on the website and that based on what it is selling for they should have received more $$$.
However, with well over 26,000 used items in our warehouse at any one time, there is no way for me to be able to confirm that this is the case.

All that being said, if you ever feel that once your items have been evaluated that you are being quoted unfairly, if you drop me an email I will always look into it for you: Helen@adorama.com

I have sold things to Adorama. They are 100% legit. If you decide they aren't paying you enough they ship it back. They ship it back in very secure packaging with no questions asked. I do not believe they offer 70% of curreent selling price but that is still a higher offer than I have gotten anywhere else. You can trust Adorama.
