Thanks - I checked out Photocrowd.com and there are so many categories. I'm not sure which one I would use, but it seems there is no charge for entry...and your point is well taken about putting my money down and "playing the odds" of winning where I don't know the odds does seem kind of unwise. I am looking at other contests (like Bidiboo-for babies and kids, and Gerber) also, and they do not charge. So I'm re-thinking this. Thank you for steering me towards other ideas - and my wallet thanks you, too!
Thanks - I checked out Photocrowd.com and there ar... (show quote)

You're very welcome. I'm glad I was able to offer you some food for thought, and good luck on finding a contest for your grandkids' awfully cute photograph.

Great set. Love #5 and #10. Both contain a wonderful focal point. The rock formation in #5 and the lacy dead tree in #10 bring the eye right to the center of the images.

Nice set of photographs. I belong in the "un-silky" camp, and I especially like how the more realistic photo turned out in black and white. There was not much color to be found in the original photo so black and white is the perfect choice.

Great set of photographs. Especially love #1 with your upward POV, crisp detail and moody sky. Perfect for black and white.

Wow! $200 is a lot of money. Would you play the tables in Las Vegas knowing that you might lose the money but have fun for the time you were putting your money down? If the rules sound like they might be geared to "professionals," then they probably are geared that way. And as you said, you "just took the picture." You can look at the website called Photocrowd.com and check out some of the photographs that are "judged" and see how detailed the judges are when they look at photographs. Then you might have a better idea how the "big boys" play the game and make your decision then. It is a fun photo though, and the expressions are priceless.

Wow, nice. Never seen or heard of it, Ill have to fix that!

Check before you go to visit Shoshone Falls. It is fed by the Snake River, and the river is diverted for energy uses during the year. The Falls become a trickle when that happens. I was told at the visitor's center (at the Perrine Bridge) that just a week before, there would have been nothing for me to see at the Falls.

I love the expression you captured in #2. This is one tuff birdie!

Great series. I especially like #1 where the lighting is more even and the turbulence of the water peeks out here and there from between the rocks.

Good choice to clone out the duck. The focus is on the egret and his piece of bread. Love how the light plays on his feathers.

I think that the color photograph is more interesting. There is more drama in the color shot with the color-tinged clouds, the grey-blue bit of sky and the bits of white contrasting with the rugged darker browns of the rocks. Usually, the absence of color focuses the viewer on the shapes and forms of things, but here, for me, not much is going on in the black and white image.

Was on a road trip to Idaho this summer. Shot some photos of Shoshone Falls. Read that it is considered the "Niagara of the West." I can see why. Enjoy, Michael
