Hello. The name is George. I have am retired and Golf and Photography fill my time. I primarily like still life and macro but sometimes I combine my hobbies and take my camera to the golf course. Golf courses are usually quite scenic and teaming with wild life. I look forward to sharing experiences and learning from you folks.

George,

Welcome aboard. The HOG is a great photography forum.
Played golf in Scottsdale several years ago. The TPC course, Westin Resort course and Camelback. Played in June. Heat can be a problem but not to bad if you play early and take precautions. Loved the courses.

Hello, my name is Debbie and I am from North Huntingdon, PA. I have been interested in photography since I was in high school (many moons ago). I am always trying to improve and learn what I can from others. I really like landscape photography. However, I would like to get better at taking better pictures of people, especially my two grandchildren.

Debbie,

Welcome to the "HOG". This is a great forum, you will enjoy and can learn from many here. See the "SEARCH" topic at the very top of the page. Just type in a topic and you will get many posts to check out.

Today was more like a Fall day than mid-summer. Never got above 70 degrees but a perfect day for a ride in the Smoky Mountains in Tennessee..

DB,

Used to do a lot of camping and backpacking in the Smoky Mountains. Have not been there for quite some time. You just gave me a reason to visit again soon. Used to love October in the Smokies!!!

What is the best camera setting for sports shooting? Aperture Priority, Shutter Priority, or Manual? Indoor, outdoor, nighttime?

Noela,
Need to narrow down. What sport? Bright light, low light,
some light, etc. What camera and lens?

Hi! My name is Mary Ann and live in Fitchburg, Wisconsin. I take pictures to express my love of the things I photograph. My mother gave me a SLR camera when I graduated from college in 1978 which overwhelmed me. Thankfully my boyfriend knew how to use one and showed me how. I got my first digital camera (Fuji Finepix F10) in 2006 mostly to take pictures of cats for a rescue group I was volunteering with. I felt ready to move on to a DSLR (Canon Rebel Eos Xsi) in May of 2008. I've been taking some pictures for Maddie's Fund for 2 years now. I know I still have a lot to learn. I'm also wondering if it is time to upgrade but there seems to be so many more choices out there now that it is overwhelming!

D7100/Sigma 17-50mm.

#1 is standard photo for comparison. #2 is with GND filter. #3 is with camera set on 'EFFECTS/COLOR SKETCH'. I am just starting to play around with 'Scene' & 'Effects' modes. It's fun. Have recently received my book, 'D7100 for Dummies'--excellent book--makes a lot more sense than the Nikon manual.

Dook,
I also have a D7100. Have not started play around with the special effects yet but you just me a reason to do so.
Thanks,

My name is Lowell, I have enjoyed photography since I was a youngster, my first camera was a Kodak Brownie as a teenager visiting San Diego I bought an old folding camera for $8, one of the best pictures I have ever taken was with that old camera,a couple of black kids fishing through the cracks in the dock where the navy boats were parked, I had no idea what I was doing, back then Kodak had some some exposure instructions printed inside the film box. They worked quite well. Later I took some classes at the local community college and Nikon had a weekend class that traveled to Salem and I took that. Somehow along the way I lost interest, but now at 73 I am again excited about photography. I have a Pentax MX and some extra lenses. I like film, especially black and white. The digital cameras are fascinating but I will not be able to afford one. Whoever coined the phrase "the golden years" was either a doctor or pharmacist. sorry for the long post, I will post some pictures soon.

Lowell,
Have you considered a P&S? Can get into some good ones for less than $500 - $600.

Hello, all. Contemplating buying a DSLR. Just starting to look for information.

Boudreau,
Welcome to the "HOG", from Slidell myself. Need a little more information in order to help. Budget, what do you like to shoot, do you already have some lens, etc. When you post this information get ready for a ton of suggestions.
Enjoy yourself.
