For months I've sat here reading all manner of whinging by Americans about their President. Today I saw this man stand head and shoulders above all other World leaders and make a speech at the Mandela memorial event that was stunningly brilliant. I cannot imagine any of his recent predecessors being able to speak so honestly or with such impact, conviction and meaning as he did today. We would all do well to remember his comments and implement them in our own lives, as doing so would make the World a far better place to live in. Certainly it would be far better to do this than sniping over such issues as Obamacare. His was the only contribution that brought everyone to their feet and should have made Americans feel proud, although I susoect there will still be plenty who will sadly wish to continue the sniping.

I suspect the benefit does not outweigh the cost or it would have been implemented as I'm sure skilled designers have already checked this out.

I am down in South Africa watching the Nedbank Golf Tounament. Blacks Whites and Coloureds are walking the fairways and sitting happily in the stands together enjoying thus fabulous event. This could not have happened 30 years ago and whatever steps Nelson Mandela took over many years to bring about that change has been well worth it.

Why, when aircraft manufactures are doing all they can to reduce weight, would they want to install such heavy items to duplicate something they pretty much already have and which then has to be hauled round in the air for thousands of miles for absolutely no benefit, but burning up additional precious fuel?

Don't worry folks, an event of this nature will always bring out a few totally evil racist bastards seeking self gratification.

I'm sure all you guys who support what this Marine did, also support the exact same action by the Nazi troops in France in the second World War, who did exactly the same to defenceless British soldiers.

In the 70s I recall listening to a debate between two top glamour photographers in the UK. One was an advocate of carefully composing each shot, the other of firing off shots rapidly and accepting that only a small percentage would be acceptable, but at the same time argueing that he would have far more top class shots than the other photographer.
I followed this argument for some time and concluded that personal preference, style and available finance played a large part in the decision making process on this, whilst still not being certain who got the highest number of top class shots.

From our perspective in the UK it looks as though the very selfish Republicans are about to plunge the World back into resession, being unable to see beyond a health programme they don't like.

I have the policy of not getting extended Warranties. These warranties are designed to make money for the stores or companies that offer them. If you never buy them, but save the money, you will be way ahead financially.

Agreed wholeheartedly

The clerk recommended I bye insurance. I was reluctant but did. Well it fell of the car sent and landed on gravel and cracked the screen. Needless to say all was taken care of and I have used it 2 more times more. Was so happy with the resulted I extended money well spent

But I'll bet if you research all your various policies, such as house and contents insurance, for instance, this situation was already covered anyway. So many people never think of this when they are sucked into buying extended warrantee policies. I can prove that by never buying them, over the years, I have saved thousands.

I have just looked at my normal house and insurance policy. Like most of yours I suspect do to, it covers all the accidental damage stuff that posters keep referring to and there are no time limitations to it either, so I ask, how many are paying a second time for insurance they already have. There is a vast difference between an extended warrantee and damage cover. I would always seek accident and damage cover, but never an extended warrantee.

From the very first time I was offered extended warranty, I asked how much it would be, declined, then went home and put that amount of money in my savings account. When a few years ago, my computer crashed, I bought a new one using the cash from that account - and had money left over!!!
Still doing the same thing today, I have in fact become my own insurer. Not just for photography and computers, but anything extended warranty is offered for.

I totally agree. If you examine the accounts of many companies like this, their commercial viability results from selling extended warrantees
If I had taken them out with everything I get offered them for I would be paying thousands a year just to keep companies in business. In reality I've needed none of them and if I had I've saved hundreds of times more than the worst case scenario would ever cost me.

I was in that area some time ago to play golf at Sugarloaf in Deluth. I noticed a fine array of pumpkins in the area, but none that took my fancy.
