For months I've sat here reading all manner of whinging by Americans about their President. Today I saw this man stand head and shoulders above all other World leaders and make a speech at the Mandela memorial event that was stunningly brilliant. I cannot imagine any of his recent predecessors being able to speak so honestly or with such impact, conviction and meaning as he did today. We would all do well to remember his comments and implement them in our own lives, as doing so would make the World a far better place to live in. Certainly it would be far better to do this than sniping over such issues as Obamacare. His was the only contribution that brought everyone to their feet and should have made Americans feel proud, although I susoect there will still be plenty who will sadly wish to continue the sniping.

Oh please. I didn't listen to Obama's speech so I can't comment on it. However, for argument's sake, let's assume it was the most brilliant speech in the history of speeches. Why should I suddenly change my political views of the role of government because he have a good speech about a man who died?

Sorry. I'm not going to stop criticizing Obama because I vehemently disagree with his political ideologies.

I just have one question on Obama's speech. If it was supposed to be a tribute to Nelson Mandela, how many times did Obama mention HIMSELF in the speech?

Some people just don't get it. Extreme dislike often makes some people unhappy and short sighted. Totally counter-productive and limits ones ability to effectively evaluate.

1. The speech was written by somebody else....without a script he's lost. 2. Apartheid is the only subject he can relate to because he's not a businessman.
3. Someone who lives across the pond shouldn't tell us what we should be using as a guide in leading our lives.. This man you speak of has created so much division in this country it will take years to undo if it ever gets undone.
4. This is a photography forum.....So don't start contaminating this site with politics!

P.S. If you lived in this country you would see that Obamacare is just 1 major problem...Immigration is another, as is support for our military. I could go on for hours..................

Great speech? Ha!

Obama probably didn't write the speech, he has people to do that mundane stuff. He just delivers the words. He was on the world stage and he was milking it for all it was worth ... in front of a bunch of people who know nothing about him. Who could go wrong touting the great names in American history ... Washington. Lincoln, Jefferson, etc? And of course, making Mandela seem like the greatest saint ever born; that's always good for a lot of rousing cheers.

People in America are becoming more aware of his lying words. He would never get a South African type crowd approval in America, unless it's a small group of handpicked college kids and other low information citizens. Mandela often used his skills to bring people together, Obama is using his skills to divide people, trying to destroy a great country.

Gee, all these years I thought it was common for presidents and many other politicians to write their own speeches!

Why can't folks understand that ?

Very prominent in the forum. You can talk about your bowel problems here if you like. Just no pictures please.

GENERAL CHIT CHAT

My view is that O'Bummer talks great but doesn't have the intelligence to follow up for America.

Hahaha good point! You KNOW he talked about himself and how similar he is to Mandela.

The only future memory of this faux president will be his ability to talk and raise money. Now...if he could just raise the dead by speaking, then the U.S. treasury would be full!

I've got no axe to particularly grind either way, but I could not help reflecting what his predecessor, a guy who even with a speech written by him or anyone else still seemed pretty much unable to string a few coherent words together, would have done on this massive World stage. Nothing much I suspect from my experience of trying to decipher what he was trying to say on so many occasions when he was in office. Obama is not in the same league as Churchill as an orator, but most certainly he is not in the same league as bumbling Bush.
