Welcome to the forum.
You did right by asking the experienced members here before taking a chance on a place questionable.
I live in Texas and have no experience with these places but this question and these New York foto shops have been a subject of conversation many times.
PLEASE be careful, when you see a cheater than thou add, there is a reason. These members know.
What is a few bucks, which to to me is chump change, compared to purchasing from a KNOWN RELIABLE store these folks all about. So, if you go with a low baller cheap ass join you usually get what you paid for which could probable disappoint you in the long run so you wind up spending too much time and frustration trying to recover.
Yea, welcome and please read the advise from these knowledgeable members who know.
You made the right call to check here first, glad you did.
Happy shopping and good shooting.

I am going to chime in on IBerkicks, a neighbor Texan.
He nailed right down. If it spins up the chances are 'possibly' less you had a hard drive crash meaning the read/write head damaged the disk. If not it is all recoverable. IF and I mean IF, no hd head damage, all of your stuff on the drive should be recoverable but buddy, ya gonna have to pay for it. I know how this data retrievable is done. IF only the hard drives controller failed then it will be much less expensive to read and copy it off.
IF the there is a head crash it will still spin up, BUT !!!!!
listen to what the previous reply said to you.
If you have the time and puters to test and try to get into it you maybe able to copy them off yourself.
Is this a Windows 7, 10 MAC ????
this matters.
Not to preach, but this is a hard love lesson to keep your files on other devices as back ups.
It is not a matter 'IF' but 'WHEN' a device like a hard drive will fail. Any device will eventually fail.
I know, it has happened to me everyone I know.
Also, see if someone has a hard drive reader. Or plug it up to another puter as an add on device and see if you can open it.
It all depends on the OS level.
Good luck bro.

excellent replies guys;
Yes, HP's are not known to be the better choice for inkjet photo printing.
However, they are the industry standard, or used to be, for laser jet printing in the business world. Laser jet color printers do a great job on regular paper printing documents even color documents.
Foto is another beast, as the previous reply stated, and he is right too, 8 color minimum if possible.
There have been countless reviews and comments on printing here on this site.
Use a dedicated foto printer for just that and cheap laser jet for regular stuff like B&W everyday stuff.
have fun with your search.

Kuzano,
you nailed it right on the head, nice explanation.
The Cosco I go to is 18 miles away, the 8x10 prints are $1.79 each.
Of course they can print any size, metal prints, etc, very very cost effective.
Many Pro photographers use their services. I am not selling them but just stating the fact this is the best option I have that I know of in the Dallas/Ft.Worth area.

They use the big Fuji chemical printing system, you cannot find anyone, including professional shops, who can provide better prints.
Canon inkjet printers seem to be the favorites and no doubt they print excellent photos, but for the simple cost and quality, I send it out. I get them the same day too.
I just send them online or you can take it in with a USB drive and they will pull them from there. I have had the opportunity to use high end expensive commercial laser jet printers and they cannot even come close.
Ink jets which give photo quality print outs do cost a bit more and the ink costs too.
Believe me, i have looked at them for next printer and decided i do not need the extra cost as long as Cosco is around..
Since we do not know what model of printer he has, it is very hard to answer his question, that is why I said just try both types of paper, but depending on what he wants to do the prints ?????
well ???????????
good luck, let us know how it goes.

try both both as a test.I have an HP inkjet and it makes a mess out of glossy paper. Granted it is a cheap printer, but still, depending on what model of printer you have, it may do well with both types of paper.
Me, if I want to print good stuff and presentable, I send it to Cosco.

well spoken Tommy
right on the mark,
the iPhone is known to one of if not the best cell phone cameras and yes, it is the operator, not the device for sure.

after 6 pages of replies I think it is time I add my nickles worth in the mix because.
I too have the Galaxy S6.
Enough has already been said about cell fone cameras.
I purchased a flexible cabled mini scope which connects to a cell phone or tablet.
This allows one to visually inspect places otherwise not acceptable like inside engines, other areas of cars etc.
Yes it is nice to have a handy dandy pocket camera on the fone that we can whip out and get a quick shot.
I do believe the cell fone engineers never intended to compete or challenge real cameras since they are a specific device.
Where cell phones now are just small pocket computers with telephone, internet and a camera feature.
We've come a long way Ma Bell.

OMG !!!!!!!!!!!! I am soooooooooooooooooooo envious.
this is truly a ride of the lifetime.
You will not need to long lens in the plane. Just one camera and one lens, I agree with the other post that the 100mm is the longest you would need. 50 would be perfect.
you want to get shots inside the plane, this is flying history.
love airshows and I too am a pilot.
I am not adding anything not already said but had to say I am glad you taking this ride.

Ditto that for me too brother;
if what you got works for you then you are good to go.
Why jump into a DSLR if you do not need one.
You previously had an SLR, as I did too.
But !
Since there is a Universe full of all kinds of camera's, there is something for everyone and it reads like you have already found your nitch in the universe.
However, since you posted this question to the forum, are you not 'kinda curious' and fishing around with the idea of trying out a DSLR ???????
My psychic powers have diminished and left me so I cannot help you with that, but, hey, after all the great feed back from the hoggers here, aren't you just a 'little bit curious' enough to just 'maybe' borrow one out and just play around with one and see if 'maybe' it could expand your photography experiences.
Just thinking !!!!

You already know that answer.
Especially if you previously owned a SLR.
