I am thinking of trading in my 18- 200 3.5 lens for a Nikon 70- 300 'vr lens at mpb my lens is in ex. Condition they offered me 175.00 for my lens. I would only owe 65 .00 for a like New 70- 300 'vr lens ,what do you guys think? Thanks Jim Bianco

That's not a lot of money for a Nikon lens. You'll miss the overall range going down to 18mm but at that price, why not just buy the 70-300.

why do you think that you "need" the new lens? I assume you have a crop sensor camera and that the lens is DX. I have a D3400, I actually looked at that lens as well, since my camera kit included a non-VR 70-300 mm lens. I was uneducated at the time when I purchased the camera and didn't realize how difficult the long lens is to hold. Rather than trade up, I "tried out" a 55-200mm and then bought it on the Nikon sale for $140! I love it, it has almost become my walk around lens. If I ever "need" the 300 mm I will use a tripod.

$65 ... pocket change ... to switch
from what you use now to what you
plan to use going forward ? Doesn't
matter whether the seller or buyer
comes out a bit ahead. Just do it
and get back to shooting. This isn't
high finance.

It depends on what your shooting needs are and what other glass you have.

Only you know what you want or need. The deal seems good as long as you don't get stuck with big shipping bills.

I just sent a fairly heavy lens to Adorama. They sent a prepaid shipping label and will pay for the return if I don't like their offer.

I have an 18-200 and have other better glass that overlaps and extends beyond both ends of the range.

That being said, I never miss a shot due to changing a lens and is extremely light for the pack of lenses it would replace.

one of my favorite lenses for a crop sensor nikon, d5100 was the 55-300 vrii. just saw one used for around $110. VR was awesome, just let it settle. I used it for close-ups, portraits etc. here are a few shots from years ago. The full frame 70-300 vr was probably a little better but more money.
