...when I use my cellphone camera (Galaxy 6). It still feels like a toy to me even though it comes in handy. Sorta like using a remote to change the TV channels instead of having to get up and turn a dial.

Used with an understanding of what they are designed to to best, a cell phone camera can return excellent IQ. And the Galaxy's camera is one of the better ones.

The only thing that’s getting cheated is your photography!!!
Today’s cell phone is little more than yesterday’s Instamatic and they weren’t any good either!!! LoL

How many times have you been somewhere or doing something and had the sudden thought "Damn, I wish I had my camera" without ever thinking about that device in your shirt pocket. I did that for years. OK it's not a Nikon D 5 with a 180-400mm NIKKOR f/4E TC1.4 FL ED VR Lens but within the limitations of its design it's everything you need. I use my Galaxy S-7 to capture things I would never get otherwise. Changing cloud formations and my SLR is locked in the trunk of my car 200 yards away, a butterfly that just happens to stop by while I'm pulling weeds, other daily events you just didn't have a camera for. In reasonable sized enlargements I don't think anyone can tell if I was using my cell phone or my SLR. The only limitation I see in a cell phone camera is that it is not as versatile as an SLR. Don't feel like cheating, feel like you are using the best available camera to capture an image you will never another opportunity for.

Any smart person will use the cell phone instead of going "I wish I had my camera".

And remember, if God wanted us to exercise, he wouldn't have invented the TV remote.

Not a good analogy Imho. More like a Rollei 35, and always in your pocket. Limited abilities but very high IQ.

The best cell phone cameras today are much, much better than the old film point and shoot cameras like the Instamatic. If you work within their limitations, like avoiding low or bad lighting, fast action, etc. they can produce large prints of very good quality.

The best thing about cell phone cameras is that most of us are now almost never without a camera on our person when we leave the house. If I do leave my iPhone at home, it is by mistake. Even the most dedicated hobbyist, advanced amateur, or even a Pro, do not have a DSLR, Bridge, or Mirrorless camera physically with us at all times. (Even if one is in my vehicle). However, if an opportunity does arise, I always have the camera on my iPhone available to get a shot. A cell phone camera shot is much better than no picture at all. The latest cell phone cameras still have significant limitations, but can produce some very nice photos.

I got my first cellphone because the payphones were disappearing and I had to call my husband at work while I was out and about. I had to search to find one. I bought a GoPhone the next day. I think I got my first smartphone for the maps function. Now it's my second computer, always available, always ready to shoot with.

Because I got it on a whim, in the back of my mind I don't value the camera function as much as i ought. But I do appreciate the possibilities, and am trying to explore its capabilities as if it were a new standalone camera so I can get the most out of it.

Todays Cell phone cameras are 1000x the capability of the old instamatics. Modern sell phone cameras are very very good as far as what they are designed to do. Like it or not, sell phone cameras are where all the development money is going, because a better sell phone camera is a competitive advantage to a sell phone manufacturer.

Ultimately the benefits of that inveastment will spill into other cameras, and everybody will benefit. Even the archaic D-SLR guys will benefit. Who knows, Canikon may introduce a new DSLR one of these days. Or maybe not.

Times change. Technology changes. It’s much lower stress to embrace change rather than resist it. Because change happens regardless of if we like it or not.

I’m not comparing an Instamatic to the latest cell phone. I’m comparing an Instamatic to a 35mm SLR.
I’m comparing a cell phone to the best DSLR/ML made today.
You wanna take a selfie and post it immediately to Instagram, yes, the cell phone is a great tool!
I know cell phones, I use the latest and greatest iPhone X! Believe me, it’s NOT a camera but it does have one!!!
Yes, tech changes, I’ve been using an iPhone since 08 with the iPhone 1 and its amazing 50 apps!!! LoL

As I said before, Rollei 35 is the best analogy I can think of.... Great camera, limited capacity.
