I've attached a Youtube link of a video made by Howard Brown, a member of Chorley Photographic Society, a camera club that I belong to. Hope this helps. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4STWQxDCGZw&t=624s

Was about to upgrade my firmware for my Nikon D - 5300.
Then I read that a person that did it had caused his lens not to work on his camera.
I contacted Nikon, they said …
"we do not guarantee the use of 3rd party lens's on their cameras".
Since I am using a Sigma lens, I now have concern's of upgrading my firmware.
Sooo, what is your opinion on this ??
Has anyone else had this happen ??
Please advise.

Lars

I had this happen to me last year when I downloaded an update for my Nikon D800 camera. After the firmware update my 35mm Sigma 1.4 Art Lens would not autofocus. I contacted Sigma and they suggested two options : they would update the lens for a small fee or buy the Sigma docking station to update the lens software myself. I decided to buy the docking station and now the lens has full autofocus function again.

I use and love the 300mmPF f4 on my D850 and because of it's compact size and weight it's always in my camera bag.

A friend of mine has the Nikon 200-500mm and it's a top value lens, however, I opted to buy the 300mm PF f4 lens as it weighs less than my 24-70mm lens and is compact enough to stay in my camera bag at all times (my friend carries the 200-500mm in a separate case). I'm 69 and have recently replaced my Nikon f2.8 70-200mm lens with the Nikon f4 70-200mm because it's virtually half the weight and once again it stays in my camera bag at all times (unlike the 1.5kg f2.8). My advice is to rent the 200-500mm before you commit to the weight. My 300mm f4 PF is probably the sharpest lens that I own and if you match it to a 1.4 teleconverter would give you 420mm.

I'm a massive fan of Topaz products and have them all except AI Gigapixel. I ran a trial of AI Gigapixel and I thought that it was good, but for my purposes found that On1 Resize did everthing that I required. I also own AI Clear and find that it can be very good when used with certain photographs but with others can introduce artefacts, mainly red.

Does the sales tax vary from state to state in the USA? Here in the UK we have to pay 20% VAT (Value Added Tax) whether we live in England, Northern Ireland, Scotland or Wales.

I've progressed from a Nikon D40, Nikon D90, D800 and as of last month a Nikon D850. I've been pleased with all of the cameras and I like to think that I've grown with each camera body that I've owned. I would also say that the photographer is an important part of the equation relating to successful photography but I'm also aware these days of an almost "inverted snobbery" in saying that a good photographer should be able to get by with a 6mp camera. My 45.7mp D850 suits my needs and I must say it is light years ahead of the D800 that I used to own with regard to focus capabilities. I'm looking forward to growing with the camera. I've attached a photograph taken at a Superbikes event at Oulton Park in England.

I shot with a D800 for over six years and two weeks ago I treated myself to a D850 for my birthday. I did my homework and read all the reviews of the D850 and knew that I was buying a special camera -what I didn't realize was just how good the camera is. The focus and acquisition of focus is, unless you invest in a D5, in a league of it's own and those 45.7mp with no AA filter give me a level of detail that you just have to see to believe.

I've had my D800 since March 2012 and it's been an excellent all round camera, with one exception, my keeper rate of birds in flight wasn't that great. I bought a Nikon D850 two weeks ago and I'm totally amazed at how good the autofocus is on this camera. My skill level hasn't improved in the two weeks that I've owned this camera so it's down to the stellar autofocus of the D850.

Thanks baygolf for your suggestion. I think DxO will soon have a fix for this so until they do I'll probably just use PhotoLab as a stand alone program as DxO suppport has suggested. It's interesting to note that I can still export from PhotoLab to Lightroom with no problem.

After installing the latest Lightroom Classic update I now find that the DxO plug-in no longer works with Lightroom when I try to export an image from Lightroom to DxO and an error message is generated when I try to use it. After contacting DxO support I received the following reply -

Aug 25, 12:57 AM CEST
Greetings,

We have been informed that Adobe made changes to how Lightroom works that affects how DxO PhotoLab works with it. Our developers are currently investigating what Adobe did and how to resolve the issue. As soon as a resolution to the problem can be determined, the developers will release an update to PhotoLab. In the meantime, we recommend using PhotoLab and Lightroom as separate standalone programs, using PhotoLab first on the original image files from your camera. Your patience and understanding are appreciated.

Thank you for contacting DxO Customer Support.

regards,

Riley
