Republicans in the 30's considered Roosevelt's Social Security idea, that was meant originally to support the elderly at a time when family units were breaking apart, as Socialism, fought it tooth and nail, and fortunately lost. The concept that it's your fault that your not rich was falling to the wayside.
And some civilians would love working for 20 years with all living expenses paid and receive a lifetime pension as government supported socialism. Sacrifice my ass. Only 10% are actually in the field.

I was being ironic.

It's easy to throw big rocks at each other when the rocks are labeled with large concepts that we don't subscribe with the same meaning, like Socialism. It's an empty, time-waste of an argument, signifying nothing.

You might look at the specific policies that were implemented in South America and imagine if they would apply here--like the government taking over ownership of the oil industry--if you're wanting to make a point about something.

I'll give you my social security check and military pension when they pry it from my cold, dead hands.

Generally I know how the variables on the camera affect the result of a shot, but using the math to determine how to take the shot has been the show stopper for me while the reality in the shot moves on. Being more visual I have lately been using Live View on my Nikon and the wysiwyg on the Fugi to adjust the variables to match the reality that I am seeing and happier for it. Dumbing down or opening new doors?

So that's why the USA had to get to the moon first!

Steve Perry has a Youtube video for this program which describes stacking a star shot centered on the north star and the photoshop adjustments for the foreground. Makes it easy.

First time with a moon shot and first time playing with StarstaX--a free download.
Shot at 1 minute interval for 10 shots with a Nikon D750, F5.6, 1/1.6 sec, ISO 800 using a AF-S 55-300 DX lens without post-processing except for cropping. Needed a longer interval to space out the moon. There were clouds blowing through at a fast clip and some of the interval shots were blacked out in other attempts.
10 shots about filled the frame. Loved using the interval control. Set up the camera and went back inside.

Pentax Spotmatic. Took it out on ambush patrol a few times. Must have been rugged. B&W and color.

I have an Epson X-830 printer (which uses a photo black, as well as 3 color cartridges, BTW, nice.) and I've bought cartridges from LD Products in Long Beach CA for a few years for this model and its 2 predecessors. The printer has recognized the cartridges without a non-oem cartridge you're a bad-boy notice being displayed like with HP, and has printed up to 5x7 without a hiccup. I do have to clean the nozzles after not using the printer for a month, but that is standard practice.

North of South Padre Island on the mainland side of the sound is a bird sanctuary. It's the first land that birds reach coming up from the south.

Name is John Higbie. I've been photographing since boyhood and Kodak 110 film days, developing in a drainable cold locker built to hang deer bagged by the house's previous owner. Soon ran out of pocket change and stopped until years later (except for a Pentax Spotmatic bought at a PX in Saigon) and birth of first one and advent of digital.
Baby-stepped into "big" cameras with a Nikon P500, the took a deep breath and bought a Nikon D7100. We're retired now and travelling a lot. I carried the 7100 for a few trips, then jumped to a Fujifilm X-Pro2 mirrorless for lighterweight and Fuji's continuous software upgrading. I first carried the 18mm-55mm and a 55-200mm of a European trip, hardly used the 55-200 but wanted more reach, so I'm trying out a 18-135 on the next trip (along with a Nikon 50mm with adapter for museum, etc).
Thanks for the great website and all of the helpful info.
Thanks too to the website for limiting the worst angels of our nature.

I used a Trenitalia's phone app to purchase tickets in Italy with a credit card. I'd get an email back with a code the conductor scanned and that was it. Download it now and plan your trip.
Trains arrive and leave from a station running in the same direction on the same track at the same time with a weekday schedule and a holiday schedule. The same route is scheduled for every 20 minutes, or every half-hour or so throughout the day. The schedule is permanently posted at the station.
You have to find the correct track to wait at (listed on your ticket or on the app). There is a tunnel underground that takes you to the track whose train runs in the other direction. Some stations have elevators. Most stations have snack and coffee bars and restrooms. Your ticket tells you which (numbered) car to load into. You get a couple of minutes to get on, but they do check for "all clear" before departing. Large areas at the end of each car for large luggage; overhead compartments too.
The app also give you real time information on your train (minutes of delay, on-time, etc.) Travel on these trains once and it'll be second nature.
The largest city's terminals have shopping malls. They also have a large number of tracks (20-30) so don't get there at the last minute. Get there early and soak up the culture.
