Nice capture but neither a falcon nor a Goshawk. The orange breast and white streak over the red eye are telltale indications of an adult Coopers Hawk.

I am not any good at identifying hawks. Sure could use help for this one.

Immature Peregrine Falcon. The long pointed wings and malar bar (under the eye) are dead giveaways. An adult would be slate gray. Nice capture.

Thank you. I know this one is an adult but I'm assuming it's a young adult for two reasons. First, I got a picture of a juvenile one some time back in that area and second, it showed no fear staying there even though it could see me and hear the camera clicking. But of course I could be wrong.

Age is definitely hard to tell but Red-shoulders can be extremely tolerant of humans. For a number of years I photographed a pair who nested in the parking lot of a local elementary school bordered by a residential neighborhood and the main road into town from the highway. School staff and bus loads of hundreds of kids coming and going every day and the hawks couldn't have cared less.

Orange breast feathers say your Red-shoulder is an adult. Nice portraits.

This is a 100 year-old photo processor's envelope. It was part of my grandfather's estate and held negatives of my father's (born 1920) baby pictures. I've had it long enough and it's time for it to find a new home with someone who will appreciate it. It is matted and framed. I'm asking $10.00 to cover postage.

A little while back I did a little trip and fall while carrying my D500 and 200-500 lens. The only casualty was my lens shade which was cracked. Being as retail on a new one is $53.00 (pretty crazy for a piece of plastic) I attempted to repair it. I've tried both epoxy and Tamiya cement. Neither worked. Any adhesive chemists out there? I really don't care what the repair looks like as it'll be covered with a camo Lens Coat. Thanks in advance.

You might want to try asking at reddit.com/r/vintagecameras/ There are a lot of very knowledgeable collectors over there.

Both young birds are out of the nest and flying but their parents are still bringing food to the nest. The young female (right) has decided the nest and all fish delivered to it are her sole domain. Her brother begs to differ.

Not a camera issue, which is why you cannot easily find it in the manual

It is the tini-tiny slide switch on the edge of the SD card. Easy to bump accidentally. Take a careful look and you will find it.

99% chance this is the issue. Good luck

That did it. Thank you

Out of the blue my camera is telling me that my SanDisk SD memory is "..locked. Slide lock to write position." I can find nothing in David Busch's book or the Nikon manual telling me how to do this. It would be greatly appreciated if someone could enlighten me. Thanks in advance.

I have the same issue with my 200-500 Nikkor and have found painters masking tape, the green or blue stuff, not the brown, works well, doesn't leave residue, and is cheap.

Juvenile hawk ID is tough. That's a Red-shouldered hawk. Your feeder birds are safe, the squirrels, not so much.

This smallish hawk was perched on the crossbar holding gourds put out for swifts near a small pond (in hopes they will eat all the mosquitoes) on my home golf course today. Initially, I didn't see him--I was looking at a pair of blue jays that were trying to run him off (I realized after he was pointed out to me by my playing partner). What attracted me to the jays was that they landed in a tree very close to me, and I couldn't see any blue--they appeared gray. The hawk was not vocalizing--I think he was mouth-breathing to try and control his temperature, as the heat was miserable today. This picture is one of ten or twelve. This was my first time seeing a red-shouldered hawk, as far as I know; I have never been successful at capturing the red-tailed hawks that nest here.

For those interested: Canon 5DS R on a monopod, EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS II USM, Extender EF 1.4X III, at 560mm, f/9, 1/400 sec., ISO 1600, EC +.7; cropped and adjusted in PSE 14. I probably would not have used exposure compensation if I had had a little more time--I was set up to try and capture a flier.

You are correct. That is an adult Red-shouldered Hawk. If it were immature it's breast would be brown streaked. The red-orange breast is a clear sign of adulthood. Nice capture,

I've yet to see any good "bird in flight" pictures come out of a phone.
