No one has provided any documentation about why his claim is wrong, though. Anyone have any facts?

This is the video in question. Without personal attacks on the producer, can anyone tell why he is right or wrong?

There was a recent web guru who was a youtube team with his wife, that gave a lot of science sounding reasons why DXO scores proved that crop lenses performed better than full frame lenses on crop cameras. I did not follow the math he used. Logically it would seem the full frame lens casts the same image circle no matter the size of the sensor, and the crop sensor would only use the sweeter center part of the circle. So I'd say go forth and gather photons.

Just a quick comment. During a total eclipse, the light from the sun comes from a smaller and smaller area, somewhat like a slit in a spectrometer. As a result shadows become very sharp.
2. Just before and after totality, there can be an effect called shadow bands, waves of light and dark on the ground on light surfaces. In Chile in 2019, waves of light and dark appeared to be 3d, off the ground about 2 feet, as if the air was colored water floating. Ground was sand colored and sun low in sky, maybe 20° setting behind mountain. 3. There numerous weird lighting effects in nature such as the green flash at sunset just recently videoed.

These maybe interesting to look for and photograph or give one ideas or knowledge of light to apply to other things.

Look in used book sites for book titled Unusual optical pheno... or something similar.

That is interesting. I'm primarily interested in everyday light, particularly outdoor.

My friend, an artist and teacher, had his students draw an egg on a white table, with a sharp black pencil! Really makes you aware of shadows, highlights, transitions and perception. Try it!

Each section of the link I posted starts with a similar illustration, going through the effects of each type and direction of light.

Been there, done that....it's over.
Digital all the way.
I still shoot digital like it was film though.. try to make every shot a keeper- can't get used to the spray and pray method.

I was with you but I'm changing my tune lately. Bursts are the way to go for handheld is the thing I try to remind myself now.

Wait, are you from Brooklyn?

A lot of the concepts remain the same. Looking at the topics on the cover they are the same as modern Photoshop. Don't look to it for an exact step by step, but to get an idea of what is possible. For example I see blending modes on the cover. Still relevant ideas but Photoshop has added a few blending modes over the years.

Not sure putting your link in a quote of your own post will keep it out of "Links and Resources"

I was hoping to start more of a conversation about light with the link as a starting point rather than just to share a link.

Thank you all fir your comments on my post titled Macro. It seems that the best approach for my needs would be to acquire
An extension tube which I understand will provide closer focus than I can presently achieve on my Z 85 lens. I purchased said lens for its use in portraiture but soon realized that an f/1.8 lens was a gem, useful for a host of other photographic pursuits. I do like taking photos of flowers and require close focus and shallow depth of field for that. Close focus would also permit selective focus I believe. Well, I’m off to the computer to emIl my ‘guy’ at Downtown Camera in Toronto to inquire about an extendion tube.

For whatever reason I don't think Nikon makes a tube that allows autofocusing but the third party suppliers like Mieke do. B and H has various brands. The general idea is to start with the tube length divided by the lens focal length and then add whatever magnification the lens already has (every lens has some maximum magnification, you can look yours up on review sites or the lens user manual). For example using a 25mm extension on a 100mm lens gives you .25x, meaning 1 inch in the world will be a quarter inch on your sensor. If that lens already had .15 magnification then add the .5 to get .4x. When you get to 1x one inch in the world will be one inch on the sensor, considered 'true macro' by purists. So you can see shorter focal length lenses get more magnification from the same tube, but you also have to get closer, too close at some point.

I was looking to buy a copy of the textbook Light for Visual Artists by Richard Yot and came across his 4 part itchy animation website series on light, starting with basics but getting into a detailed description. Anyone read his textbook or his web articles? Or have other resources on light?

Here is a good site to check out with lots of Nikon info about bird and other wildlife photography, plus a very Nikon-centric bird and wildlife forum.

If all you want is a little closer focusing, for less than $50 you can get a third party extension tube set for use with your 85mm that will maintain autofocus and aperture control. They are just empty tubes, so if you have a quality lens it will still be a quality lens after a little extension.
