Go to shooting menu, then image area, then auto dx crop and turn to on. when you use a dx lens the camera will automaticly change to dx mode and the viewfinder will change image area will change also to help you compose

I will purchase the md-16 and send the money any way you prefer. However I am photoing a wedding on the 21st and waiting until Saturday for a decision it would not arrive by the 21st. If you can accept my offer and ship to arrive before the 21st let me know.

Was the flash turned on, have you checked the batteries, was the setting on the flash in ttl mode. Take the flash off the camera, turn it on when the red flash button illuminates press the red button and it should flash. Hope this helps.
