*** American Kestrel, female or juvenile (Opinions welcome)
Cape May, NJ 9/13/2015
While sitting in one spot for about an hour and a half, looking for Warblers, I saw an American Kestrel periodically appear in the sky just above the somewhat nearby treetops. It would fly in about a half circle and then disappear. The third time it showed, I was able to take a few shots.
The wings weren't well lighted so I brightened them some in Adobe Lightroom. I think that gives a "dirty" appearance to the lighter shades on the wings. Is there a way to remove the "dirty look"?

Great shot! Such feather detail on his back. And Coolcameragirl is right--it does look like he is saying "oh crap"
Thanks, dragonswing. Yeah, cool camera girl nailed it!

Glad you liked it, Northlander! This particular Canon lens is excellent for delivering very sharp photos.

While looking for Warblers in all the wrong places (apparently), I happen to see this Northern Mockingbird with gray eyes and a damselfly. The gray eyes surprised me since all photos of other Northern Mockingbirds Ive taken showed yellow eyes.
Anyway, this was probably the best shot of the day.

How close were you to the subject?
Great shot by the way.
Tom, I just remembered to check the photo exif info. The camera indicates the subject was 27-33 feet away.

Tom, I think I was about 40 feet away but I'll check the info on the photo later when I get a chance.

Awesome...love all the winged ones, but especially the raptors.
Thanks, Dragonfly. For me the raptors always generate a little extra excitement!
