Just a few pics I wanted to share from Todays Visit to the refuge. The last shot of the Eagle was probably 500 feet away. Not ideal, but its all I could get.

Flashpoint is made by Godox. I have never seen such a complicated mess of a system for firmware updates. It’s even worse if you use an Apple computer.

I Agree...... Horrible update process. I Have an old Windows XP Desktop I picked up for $20.00 just so I can do the firmware updates on my Godox units. Great Flash system, lousy update procedure. I could never get it to work on Win10 or even Windows 7.

I'm looking for an affordable flash for my Christmas gift D500. I seldom use flash, but I would like to be able to use one off camera. Are there any decent ones under $150?

I Highly recommend the Godox V860II-N It's Awesome unit. Amazon sells them for $179.00 (Might be a bit more than you wanted to spend though)

Recently I was given two AlienBees 320 WS B800 lights. I've tried everything I can think of (and even went to youtube) and still can't get the lights to flash with my Canon 6D camera. I've tried the test button, and the lights flash. The model lamp works fine. I've tried different combinations of numbers on the triggers that came with the units and that didn't seem to help. The previous owner of the lights was shooting with a Nikon but that shouldn't matter should it? I coordinated the trigger numbers with the numbers on my Yongnuo RF-603C trigger that I use for my speedlights for the camea. I turned the trigger on and my Yongnuo trigger too. I'm going crazy trying to figure this out. I'm hoping that one of you UHH members have a good handle on the AlienBees 320 WS B800 and can solve my non-flash problem!
I'm attaching some photos that may be of some use to solve this problem.
Thanks in advance!

Brent,

As someone else pointed out, there doesn't appear to be a transmitter mounted on your Camera, that needs to be Canon specific as well as compatible with your receivers. Is it?

Is it possible to use my Godox V680II-N flash on a Nikon D850?

Sure, It'll work fine mounted on the Flash Shoe. You can't "radio fire" it remotely unless you purchase a Godox Trigger for your camera.

[pg2]I use low-cost equipment and it works well is a simple answer, but perhaps it is the blessing [illusion] of not updating my knowledge and equipment. I did a search and W0W, if Santa saw fit he would leave a Kastar LCD Dual Smart Fast Charger under my artificial tree I would give him milk and cookies next year. The Kastar charges dual batteries and shows the degree of charge. Does it auto-shutdown at full charge; it appears so. I did find this:
"Kastar Dual Fast Charger, wide range compatibility, it can charge for batteries with 6.8V-16.8V of any capacity. Control MCU can automatically identify the voltage of the battery, going intelligent charge when being charging, and prevent overcharge. "

The really nice thing (imho) with the Kastar Charger is this: I Contacted Kastar and was able to purchase a new battery tray to charge a Sony Battery I use in my LED Light Panel. It was a simple matter of removing one screw, slide out the old tray, and slide in the new, and replace the screw. Now I can charge the EN-EL18 battery in the 1st slot, and the second slot charges my Sony NP-F970 battery. It makes the charger quite versatile. Prior to getting the Kastar charger my Sony battery only had a USB charger, and I had NO Charger for the EN-EL18 battery. The EN-EL18 battery is used in my Grip for my D500, and didn't come with a charger. Since I purchased the camera and grip here on the HOG, I choked when I saw the Nikon charger was almost as much as I paid for the Camera. So THATS the reason I purchased an off brand charger. Will it last as long as the Nikon branded equipment? Probably not, Might it lessen the life of the battery over the years? Possibly so. But I can also carry one charger instead of 2 chargers, and save many hundreds of dollars !

BTW.... the link you provided on the Kastar Charger is the same charger I purchased, except I purchased mine without additional batteries. But I believe the sell the sleds, or trays for EN-EL15 batteries as well if that suites your needs better.

I know that Hoggers have shared their opinions about non-OEM batteries many times. This is a little different—I'm asking about using non-OEM chargers, in order to have a two-port charger, for example. What are your experiences with third party chargers? Does anyone have experience with the Coolshow brand?

Thanks!

Ben

Ben,

I've had a tough time finding a charger that likes the Nikon EN-EL18 Batteries. I purchased and returned a couple of them before settling on a Kastar Brand charger. It seems to work just fine. I've never heard of "Coolshow" though. I would have purchased a Nikon Charger if it wasn't $300.00+

With the Firmware update for the
Nikon D850 and D500 does anyone have a list of CFCards that are compatiable?

Go to Nikons site at this URL: https://www.nikonimgsupport.com/ni/NI_home?ctry=US&lang=en_US Begin typing D850 or D500, and you'll see a list of the approved memory cards. Now that being said, I purchased a delkin 64gb that was NOT on the list and it works just fine.

Just in case anyone is curious, the Delkin branded 64gb CFexpress card works just fine on the D500 after the firmware update. It is NOT on the tested and approved list of cards for the D500, but it works as it should.

Just in case you're thinking about it.

I have the Innorel RT-90C; great tripod, especially for heavy rigs; very stable even in high wind. On the other hand, it's a monster; heavy to lug around compared with RRS, Gitzo, or FLM.

Jeff,

If I have ANY complaints about that tripod its the weight. You're right, it is a monster. When you add up the weight of the tripod with a Gimbal on it, the camera, a Long lens, you definitely need a Sherpa to navigate the backwoods. But its solid as can be, and well engineered.

Hi Gary, thanks for the input, also looking at an Innorel the LT324C, the 90's "little brother" You mentioned you found a center column for the 75mm bowl, which model Leofrotto if you don't mind.
Thank you so much!

I purchased the center column from eBay (pre-owned) for $49.00. Here's the sellers description: Leofoto DC-404C CF Center Column - Gitzo Series 5 Systematic (85mm) Compatible. (wait... Im confused now, the description say 85mm not 75mm. I hope Im not giving you bogus information)

By the way, here's a link to the Innorel Center Column. https://www.amazon.com/Column-INNOREL-Mid-Column-Professional-Extension-Camcorder/dp/B08CDJ3BMH

Looks like it was made for this tripod. (although who knows, maybe Leofoto, and Innorel are made in the same factory). I have no idea.
