I am busier since retirement then before! Those considerring retirement, plan is the operative word. For example, how much you pay for Medicare coverage is based on your adjusted gross income THREE years before you start its coverage! We sold property that year and had our highest AGI that year. We retired in July 2016. We still pay extra premiums than most do.

You can fill out some forms with Social Security stating you have had a life changing event, i.e. your income has dropped as of the date you retired. If your projections show your income will be much lower, SS will reassess your extra premiums and reduce or eliminate them depending on your projected adjusted income.
You have to back that up with latest tax returns or projections of upcoming tax returns. Found myself in the same situation but after what seemed to be be an excessive amount of paperwork and visits to the SS office, they removed the extra premiums and refunded the amounts paid for the tax year.

I've noticed quite a few people wearing the Apple watch. I'm sure some of you have them. They are now up to model 5, but there are many options and choices. I'm not necessarily going to rush out and buy one, but if I did want one, what should I know about them and all the choices?

I like the Apple watch features but do not like the battery life. I opted for the Fitbit Versa instead. It does not have the same features but has a lot of apps you can add. It also connects to your cell ( I have an iPhone) and it has a battery life of 4+ days.

Seems to me that the "United states" is similar to the EU in a lot of ways and generally it works. We have borders between the states, we have economic and cultural differences, the federal government is seen as a dysfunctional body that always wants more money for fewer services. Each state has its own government and laws so while there are many differences there are also many similarities

Finally got through to Canon. Very helpful but after walking through all the options concluded I will need to take my photos sparingly, go through the on-off and remove replace battery for the next shot and send the camera for repairs when I get home. Fortunately it is still under warranty

Thanks for the suggestions. Tried all and still no luck. Guess I am carrying a brick for the rest of the trip. Will try Canon service center tomorrow when they open after the weekend. X9

I am on vacation n and my camera suddenly started giving me an error 80. Switched it off and removed/ replaced battery. Took a photo and got the same message. Same routine for the next photo. Does anyone know of a fix to keep it functioning till I can return when I get home

Welcome to the HOG, Xerxisx. We are all picture takers. I am interested how you think a photographer is different. Most of us have software to tweak our pictures. We like to share our best pictures and ask for and give advise and making better pictures. Only a few are paid full time to "take pictures"
David

Thanks
I have been very lazy about post processing. Typically I take the picture and save it. Playing with the tweaking software is probably the next learning process for me

Some of the limitations that have made me look at other cameras are:
The low FPS. Love the sound of the 10 FPS on the MkII. The focus is another one. I have several pictures of birds in flight with fantastic clear backgrounds and blurry birds.
Also, the video does not autofocus when you zoom on the T1i and I have been using the the video lately because my grandson has just started walking and sometimes it is nice to simply go to video without having to grab the video camera.

That does raise an interesting point. While I do not shoot a lot of wildlife I do enjoy doing it when the opportunity arises. Sports is not on my list. My approach is to buy the best I can afford and then I live with for a while. I currently own a T1i and have enjoyed using it but have become aware of its limitations. What alternatives would there be? - Probably be difficult to change my mind but I am willing to listen. :-)
