It's funny how some people can't take a compliment. In one of my groups, there is a woman in her 70s who is very attractive, despite not wearing makeup or doing anything with her hair. Being the thoughtful gentleman that I am, I thought I would pay her a compliment.

"You know, Pam, despite the fact that you're probably pushing 80, you're still a rather attractive woman. Although you seem to be letting yourself go, never wearing any makeup and not doing anything with your hair, just letting it run wild, you're still rather nice to look at."

I expected a big smile, but she made an ugly face and stormed away. Some people just can't take a compliment.

That is NOT a compliment. Words like "pushing 80," RATHER attractive," "not doing ANYTHING,"LETTING YOURSELF GO," "NOT doing ANYTHING," and the ultimate insult: "you're still RATHER NICE TO LOOK AT" are belittling and insulting.

I have boxes and boxes of beautiful slides, especially Kodachrome taken from the 1960s to the early 2000s then tens of thousands of digital pictures taken for the last 20+ years. None will last except for the very few I have shared with others or put into pictures on my walls. Bummer - or just the way it is.

The ship lost power and black smoke poured from the ship. Out of control it veered right toward the bridge support. It called a mayday. The problem was observed from the shore and the police closed access to the bridge before the ship hit it. 8 men were fixing road potholes on the bridge. Two were rescued immediately but 6 died. My evil mind, taking into account the name of the bridge, came up with this:

O say can you see,
By dawn's early light,
The bridge that fell down
In the middle of the night.

My cancer operation was only 32+ years ago followed by lung-damaging blood clots and full phlebitis in my right leg. But here I am at age 90 telling you about it. Still functioning and occasionally working so I thoroughly understand your feelings. P.S Used to listen to Minnie Pearl on the Grand Old Opry All those years ago.

If you are going to buy a portable gas/propane generator, be sure you know what you are buying. You probably want one that provides both 110 and 220 volts, but many provide only 110v. When I bought mine over ten years ago, I didn't give a thought to 220v, assuming it provided that. And it does.

Well, I've used a portable many times but it's now very hard to bring it out and get it going. Considering an automatic one. Somebody said $5k. More like $10k down here off the Catskills.

Many years ago when we bought our first generator it was a small 110 from Harbor Freight for our tent Traylor it worked just fine for our small first house when we moved here in the mountains - the we had a big power outage after moving into a large house - Rushed down to Sacramento H.F. and bought my first 110-220 generator with electric start- have never regrated the up grade we have had the larger one hardwired into our house for 7 yrs. We get a lot of bower outages here year around- they cut the power most any time during storms - high winds in summer and heavy snows in winter.

"Electric start?" How when the electricity is out?

While there are some industrial applications that use 240v the average house in the USA uses 110 volts. The term 220 refers to having two 110 line inputs used by air conditioners, dryers and other high usage home equipment.

My well, stove, pool heater, and large air conditioner all use 220. The rest 110.

Boeing shoulda stayed in the town of my birth Seattle (90 years ago). Back in the late 30's my father took my sister and me to see the latest, the Boeing flying boat. Pan Am used them and probably others did. Not a single one left in the world.
