I found this on the ground in my backyard this morning.
There is definitely something moving around inside.
I live in Sarasota, Florida.
Can anyone tell me what it is?

Looks like a Polyphymis moth chrysalis. Goggle a photo. Put it in a large glass container maybe with a small damp piece of sponge and a vertical stick to climb up on too unfurl and pump fluid into its wings. Then I hope turn it loose after a photo session.

I've never been happy with my attempts. The pink color is from sunset light behind me, but there is a bit of dirty air and the deep blue shadow to deal with also.

You are welcome to go "playful" though I'm more curious about how you deal with this one realistically Many thanks!

Linda, thank you for all that you do for folks on this web site. You have a dedicated skill with images and It was late tonight, but I had a curiosity as to what photoshop browser and a preset from Topaz might do with the image. It is not particularly an improvement, but reflects what I think I see in the afterglow often following a sunset here in Ellensburg. Somehow the brightness dropped about a quarter to half a stop in the transfer so the landscape returned darker.

Interesting images and I like your choices in processing. I remember seeing the warning signs posted for hikers. Thanks for sharing.

Last fall 2018 I followed a passion for a day searching for photography backgrounds of Oregon white oak in eastern Washington dry habitats. The oak is found along highway 12 and south to the Columbia River and of Course beyond into Oregon. I am fascinated by the the history and enchanting character of each tree. I wanted to share this often overlooked potential for backdrops in photography. It was a cloudy day a little past peak color.

I found #1 to be missing something on the left third. Number 2 has a powerful effect almost like an active volcanos with the cloud on top. Your crops as previous suggestions came up with are saving the strength of the image. Nice capture. I have stopped at that viewpoint several times but never get something so special.

I think your idea is very creative and as far as art goes it does not need to be perfect however, as someone who has worked in a museum years ago, I am bothered by the balance of the bird in your cage. The toes should wrap around the branch and the body should be balanced. Look at your original and imagine a line vertical from the foot showing how the bird is naturally balanced and note that in your cage the bird is falling forward as in launching into flight with nowhere to go or falling off the perch. On your original bird there is a very subtle shadow that when duplicated with a brush might help anchor your bird visually to your perch. Composites are a lot of fun and thanks for sharing.

This really nice wake up call of photographs reminds me its all about space and resources. Keep the farm! There are only enough resources for a few to have the easy life among the billions who are beginning to migrate and immigrate to the easier life out of desperation.

You indicated these images are off the internet. Is there some chance this is a high tech photoshop con??

I miss my RB medium format camera images, but not the $2.00 cost per shot for equipment and processing. The costs are still present but in software and computer power. I figure my Canon 5D Mark III maybe costs less than 10 cents per shot but my time has become infinitely woven into learning new software and processing. Topaz labs I see is showing off new software today that cleans up jpgs and AI software yields an amazing improvement in upgrading toward quality images and this technology is bound to improve. Since most images for people are just snap shots I think the market for small camera phones is a lot stronger than most suspect.

I am sold on Topaz programs, but you need to do your own tests. AI Gigapxel cleaned up a jpg image from a good phone for me that clearly demonstrated a few jagged edges in the original and generally will slightly sharpen an image from my canon full frame. I think you will find other enlarging programs will expand image defects. AI Clear is also an amazing program that is even more useful in editing most files. Sign on to one of the weekly Topaz one hour workshops and discounts are made available at the end of each program. Customer service is excellent and upgrades to programs are included which is also a big plus. I suspect this technology is going to change some of the need for cameras with higher and higher megapixels.

Thanks for posting an image representing what you saw and resisting the temptations of,"what if". I have been looking for this mountain for decades. Around 1950 while traveling with my family I was fascinated by the dark stripe in this mountain and for some reason the question as to what that stripe might represent stuck with me for a decade or more until I was fascinated by my first geology class where an obvious answer unfolded and historical geology became an ever expanding set of questions. I have never been able to determine where first I saw that mountain and have searched scenic images from the general area for years expecting to see this particular mountain, but I was looking at an area further north. So you would never have guessed you might make someone's day in this way with your fine image.

I can admire what the artistic license of digital filters and programs has unleashed, but when a photographer says this is what I saw by using them I think no one else will see that so brilliantly in real life.
