I've never been happy with my attempts. The pink color is from sunset light behind me, but there is a bit of dirty air and the deep blue shadow to deal with also.

This is a difficult shot, with lots of "grain" and high contrast and opportunity to play with WB ranging from white moon to pale yellow moon, to yellow moon. I also see atmospheric distortion waves along the edges of the moon.

I stretched the canvas up and right to get a better composition; painted out most of the blue cloud below the rose colored area with rose color; brightened moon; burned edges and adjusted contrast and brightness slightly.

The ridges around here are frequently fog-covered in winter. With that in mind, I tried to bring the clouds down further, starting with your edit. None are ready for sharing yet, but I'm still trying.
Appreciate your interest. I also like your crop and distort; I don't miss the rest of the scene nearly as much as I would have thought.

Beautiful image to work with. It came down to isolating each color group (sky, moon,hills) and adjusting the intensity and value of each to bring out the most realistically intense look I could.

Hi Linda, Here's an edit. The challenge was it had a lot of noise and was underexposed. The sun was setting behind the camera resulting in a bright moon on the horizon with a darkening sky. However it wasn't dark enough to push the middle ground hill into shadow. After basic and local tone adjustments, I removed the noise and a bit of colorcast.

I just used some auto adjustments in PS .Auto Tone - Auto Color - Auto remove noise for this photo .Tommy
