Spread the word - the z cameras and lenses are really good. If you are a Nikon user, the transition id easy; the menu system is straight forward, unlike those of Sony and Olympus,

Beautiful photos of a serene setting. I especially like the last photo in the serirs.

I don’t typically add a critical comment to a post. However, I believe that MJG has got to be pulling out ‘proverbial’ leg. $200 set aside for a camera and a long telephoto lens; in your dreams!

Grandchildren are our reward for raising our children. I have 3 wonderful children but they were exhausting! They have also given my wife and I 8 gorgeous and brilliant dividends. The 50mm on a full frame camera will give an accurate portrayal of the petson being photographed. You know how close or far you will be from the new baby. This should also assist you with the choice of your purchase.

Death, taxes and change are the certainties in life. Our elected officials need lessons on economics to understand what is going on ‘out there’ and plan for the change that will surely come.

This is a sample of the images i captured early one morning. I was in the northern Galilee and in the distance is Lake Tiberias. Of course in daylight the lake is viewable from where I was located but it is far in the distance. There was very little post processing done on this image; cropping and colour correction. I do not use anything but the Mac photo program. I'm not a purist; I just don't want a complicated program .

Obviously don’t know how to use this site. I posted to ‘active topics’ a photo of the sky taken well before sunrise. I wanted to show it only as an example of the opportunity available. This would not apply to commercial photographers.

I do post processing on my photos but only to get them to look as I experienced the subject. I do not care what others do with their images but I do want transparency. Also, I don't always like what some photographers produce as their final image. Digital photography has advanced so much that you can create a totally fabricated image without even had held a camera. I am attaching an image of an early morning sky captured in March 2020 in the northern Galilee.

Great discussion! ‘Funny’ but my first reaction to the opening photograph was a need to show the rest of the scene consistent with the new sky. I like reLism but a well post processed image is a new realism, good day all.

Diction and syntax are often disregarded, inadvertently. However, one should not ‘lambaste’ the perpetrator for we don’t know the facts behind. I know that the ensuing discussions can be humourless but they are usually mean. You lost an opportunity of a teaching moment x

wow, that sky replacement took an ordinary photo into a ‘stunner’. However, I have been fortunate to shoot photos in both landscapes and cityscapes with the most dramatic skies. Yes, I get up early! Capturing these in the camera only makes me a better photographer, creating a sky that wasn’t there makes me a better graphic artist and computer operator. I don’t care what others do. As the French say ‘chacon a son gout’ or each to their own taste. I teach photography and look at my student’s original photos for their qualities of exposure and composition. I don’t care if they radically change the photo with post processing but only after I see an image in its original form.

I shoot with a Nikon Z6 and I have two Z lenses covering focal lengths of 14 to 70.
The Z lenses are reasonably light and compact. The camera is not only lighter but also it is smaller than the D500 which apparently is the DSLR equivalent. You will receive and have already have in the above comments other people’s

Im sorry but I cannot understand the purpose or message that ‘nb4jee’ is laying on us. Was it only a plea for the UHH community to be more ‘universal’ and less parochial in recommending a camera? I’m going to burst the balloon. I have used only a few cameras over the years as I am satisfied with the Nikon product. There are so many cameras out there. The only difference for most of the cameras is the menu. Otherwise all of the cameras can produce basically the same image. It’s the skill of the photographer to make a great composition using the camera and their knowledge of technique and the elements of design.

Inagemeister and DAN Phillips are tight on! The amateur enthusiastic photographer is creating images. They must learn technique and in effect, become a master over their camera. I think that post processing which changes the image from what is seen to is wanted to be seen. It’s computer processing, not pure photography.

Mikeroetex - I agree with your post until you seemed to be saying that you would acquire the anticipated Z lenses of 24-105 and 100-400. If the lenses are sharp throughout their focal lengths, why would you need the 24-105? I use the 24-70 as my walk around lens. Since it does not extend past 70mm, I have to use my feet to get closer to the subject. The lens is so sharp. Cropping needs to be done in certain situations but since ai shoot raw, I’m able to keep the sharpness generally.
