It's 4th of July! If you are from Bradley Beach, NJ (as I am), you ate hot dogs at least once a week, probably more, in the summertime. Down on Ocean Ave., there were two places to buy a hot dog. One was, Mike & Lou's - the first one. There, one could get a perfectly cooked hot dog (with spilts) from grilling when it was done. Mike & Lou's used Schickhaus hot dogs and put it on a slightly toasted hot dog roll. Mustard, sauerkraut, hot or sweet relish were in "self help' vessels. I think it was $.25. Mike & Lou's opened on Memorial Day. You can bet I had one on Memorial Day and many days after as the summer progressed.

In the early 50's, a new hot dog place opened. The owner was a man named "Syd" who had a famous hot dog stand in the Weequahic, section of Newark, NJ. Now Syd only had kosher hotdogs (probably Hebrew National or Reinfeld) and he boiled them to perfection. He decided to open a 2nd stand in Bradley Beach and of course named it Syd's. If one wanted a hot dog with "stuff on it", you ordered it sweet, hot, mustard only, mustard-kraut, sweet works or hot works. Only Syd could put on the "stuff".
So, as a teenager, one hung out at Mike & Lou's or Syd's, depending on how you liked your hotdog. It was very ritualistic with loyalty to one or the other. And just as the constant argument of which is better, Canon or Nikon cameras, the argument went on all summer of which hot dog was better.
So, my wife & I are having a Mike & Lou's hot dog this evening for super. Yummy!! Can't wait!! Yup, I griddle them, have sauerkraut, relish and rolls all ready. Hurray dinner!

Rutt's Hut in Clifton has the rippers. I believe that they are Schickhaus. I think that they are boiled and deep fried.
Also in Edgewater, there was a small restaurant in the marina where I kept my boat called the Captain's Roost that made them the same way. It was only open from April till September. The owner was from Passaic, so he knew about Rutt's Hut and probably copied them. They were delicious. In Ft. Lee, we had Callahan's and Hirams that were across the street from each other. Hirams is still there. Callahans became condos. Great memories from all of them.

When I lived in NJ, my neighbor in our marina had several pre-war Chris Crafts. They were fully restored, and he would launch them occasionally. He had hands of gold. As a side note, my father had a 1920's 26' Hacker Craft that he bought in 1946. That would be worth a small fortune today. He repowered it with a Chrysler Royal straight eight. He sold it to a camp on Lake George.

I bought a 4 function Canon for $200 in 1972. It was built like a tank.

Great collection. My father had a 3/4 ton 41 Chevy pickup. Similar to the 46. Also had 2 48 stake body trucks.

I bought this camera at B&H and have had a lot of trouble getting it to do the things it is supposed to do. The online manual of over 600 pages is not helpful and several books that I bought help some. I have too much time and money invested in this camera to return it. But I would not buy it again. Sony can do much better with manuals and helping people learn this very complicated camera. They also charge $150 to get a PDF version of the online manual. I would never again buy a Sony camera

The PDF download is free, not $600. You can either print it or view it.

I was actually on my boat July 4th, 1976, for OP Sail. I was able to go cruising through all of the piers except for the Israeli pier. The Coast Guard blocked off the entrance because of security concerns. The Israelis had raided the airport at Entebbe and freed the hostages. Very enjoyable day on the water.

I got almost 6 years out of the OEM battery in my Audi A4. One day it was very cold, and it sounded weak. I repaced it with another OEM battery. Yes, I paid about $75 more, but worth it for the extra life.

Yes, I do use a wide angle for interior shots. I try not to distort by using it at the extreme 8mm setting to minimize distortion.

Because that's what I paid after tax for a brand new Nikon D850 during their Black Friday sale. I already had a D810, so you can lecture me on how unnecessary the purchase was. Rather than sell the D810, I gave it to my son in-law. By the way, it's impossible to tell the difference between pictures taken with both cameras on a computer screen.

You are a good father-in-law for giving him the D810.

I print with a pro 100 and I use precision color "signature series" inks on Canon paper without a fading problem. I spray my prints with Hahnemuhle protective spray ($20 + for 400ml can). Refilling the cl42 cartridges is easy, fast and very economical. I think the key is the Hahnemuhle spray.

It's the spray. Depending on the paper, you might need to spray both sides. An area with high UV, and Ozone will fade faster. Pigment inks have more longevity than dye based inks. Precision Color SE Inks are probably the best 3rd party inks, but are still subject to fading. A good UV spray always helps. Cheap 3rd party inks like LD will fade faster than PC SE inks. I refill with PC SE inks. If I am going to sell anything, I use OEM inks on papers with no OBA'S

Very nice. I can only hope that if I reach 95 it won't be in a "senior residence facility."

Let's hope we reach 95 and have all of our facilities.

If you want to refill your OEM carts, get Precision Colors SE. Their replacement inks will produce better color than the OEM ink. No third party ink will give you the longevity of OEM. Having said that, you can use a good UV spray on them.

Canon just came out with the Pro 200. This addresses the weak reds and cyans from the 100. The PC inks for the 100 have addressed this problem. Go check out Jose Rodriguez. He is a printing guru. Has many Youtube videos on the Pro 100. Also has a webinar on Sunday afternoons from 3-6 pm.
