so I have a lot of canon gear (2 bodies, lots of lenses) and I'm getting older and its getting heavier every day. I also have an Olympus om-d e-m1 iii which of course is a lot lighter, but only micro 2/3.

I love to do wildlife and nature in general so I usually have to haul gear around. If i switch, I want another full frame camera so my thought was to move to mirrorless to save the weight. I could of course, get one of the new Canon bodies and use my current lenses, but I'm thinking that won't save me much weight. Or, i could go with the newer Sony a7 iii and some Sony lenses.

If I could get to a store that was open and could hold the Sony a7iii with at least a 100-400 lens, i might be able to actually have the answer to my dilemma.

Anyone else have a similar situation?

check out the newly announced sony a7C (it's a full frame compact camera) 24 meg mirrorless looks a lot smaller most likely lighter too.

In 2021 my wife and I are planning to take a 2-3 week trip to Europe. I’d like to focus on the trip, and not lug my overweight bag with my Nikon D850, lenses, flash, etc. Can anyone suggest a single camera, that’s easy to carry with good image quality? I’d prefer a camera with a viewfinder and one lens, preferably zoom. I’ve had pocket Canon and Nikon cameras, but not in the last 10 years or so. Not sure what the current state of that art is. Please give me your thoughts. Thank you!

i use a sony rx100 m7 which has a 24 -200 zoom and it is a fixed (not changeable) lens. It fits in a shirt pocket has a 1 inch sensor which produces a 20 meg image shoots 20 frames/sec raw or jpg and all the flexibility of a dslr. If that is 2 small. Sony just came out with a full frame 24 meg interchangeable lenses COMPACT sony a7C

I get amazing photos with the rx100 m7 with fine detail and it is an absolute pleasure to carry around fits in a shirt pocket.

there is no way to do bbf on the rx100 models but what you can do is focus using the shutter button 1/2 way down and then shift the camera in manual focus (this will hold the auto focus until you manually change it or turn the camera back to AF and refocus with the shutter button. I have manual focus set up on the left side of the wheel and combine it with the dmf (dots feature) which show you what is in focus by using colored dots on the areas in focus.

oops I now see you are talking about the rx10 not the rx100 please disregard... Sorry.

LR lets you "save" a virtual copy and would inturn keep all the history steps associated with that virtual copy. ACR does not support virtual copies but you should be able to save as the layers and their settings in regular PS

i am a big fan of the flashpoint (godox) sold and serviced by adorama. You can also get a wireless rf trigger that will send a rf signal to the flash and will allow you to control the power amount and also the flash zoom and do so for all operating modes ttl, manual optical or RF. Priced to please too I have multiple flashes and a trigger so can set up a single to a multiple light setup. The flashes are well priced and work great

Thanks for joining in, Lloyd. I can imagine that better performance will be on quite a few people's wish list. My own experience is that performance did improve when I increased my ram to 16MB. It could probably do with going higher. Are you running it with graphics hardware support activated? It's not always an improvement. I've been considering trying running it with smart previews. They warn us that doing so can reduce the accuracy of what we see on our screens, but that may not be critical.

I have 32 gb memory and a 6gb video card which sometimes helps and then usually gets sluggish and I have to turn it off. I've got 2 SSD drives and an I7 cpu and it is disappointing to me that inspite of claimed performance improvements there is still laggy sliders which make it very difficult to see and make subtle adjustments....and the Wacom windows ink is another pet pieve that lives on and on..

I arrived late to this discussion and was surprised to see no one talked about performance problems that never seem to get fixed laggy draggy sliders and delays in seeing the changes. I'd love to see this fixed once and for all. It is very hard to use the sliders to make subtle adjustments which then show up delayed.

The second one is for windows users who also use a Wacom tablet. there is a very old problem with windows ink, Wacom and lightroom. If you check windows ink on (required for pressure sensitivity), then the delay and jumpy sliders is further exaggerated. If you turn windows ink off the sliders work better but you lose pressure sensitivity capability. This has been a fingerpointing situation between Wacom, Microsoft and adobe for several years now. The windows ink does work in photoshop with no problems..

thanks for posting this well shot photo. Here is my attempt at an edit. My goal was to make the photo less busy and I did this by brightening and adding slight blur to the water reflection..

Can you help me out? I am thinking of this as a small 2nd camera, for both casual shots when I am using the big one as my long lens sports camera, and as smaller portable camera to have in my pocket.

How big does it really feel. Will it fit in a jacket pocket reasonably well? Would it be possible to take a picture of it in your hand for scale (that might seem weird, but dimensions in the specs just are not giving me an idea of how it would fit in my hand or pocket.)

I have an m3 and the m7 it will fit in a dress shirt pocket. It is small and you will have to work on how to best support it while taking photos.. Also this is a very viable sports camera that can shoot 20 frames per second and has a 24 -200 zoom range. The photos are 20 megs on a 1" sensor and are detailed enough to be blown up.. I have metal prints from the m3 at 16 x 24. This is an amazing camera.... suggest sony alpha labs youtubes on this camera as it is quite sophisticated and will take some time to get set up for your style of shooting. Also Gary Freidman archives has e books to setup this camera...

I am serious. When you finish editing you "save as JPG" by using the export option. In Export you select save to same file as original, and check save in sub folder. Great way to have all edited photos in a sub folder under the originals. You can also have LR do additional renaming if so desired.

your method wastes a lot of disk space why export and create jpgs of every photo you edit? Instead export as jpg only the photos you want to send somewhere, post somewhere, email somewhere etc. There is no good reason to save all these jpgs and have them clogging up your hard drive and your catalog. You can create an up to date with all changes applied jpg anytime you NEED to via the export function and save them to an edited folder without putting there info in the catalog...
