I’m going nuts trying to figure out how to set the AEL button for BBF! The button only displays Exposure modes and in Custom Key (shoot) I can’t assign the AEL Button to AEL focus! No option. I’ve seen several videos that show a Focus option In the sub menu but mine is only about exposure! What am I doing wrong? Super Thanks in advance!
Perhaps AEL is only available when you're using an AE mode?
That's my wag
Good luck
Perhaps your FW version expects you to assign “AF On” to some other button ?
Thanks but I need someone who actually owns this camera to respond Please

I just tried it. I found 22 pages of options for that button but none of them were BBF. Sorry.
I did find one called "focus standard" but I don't think that is what you want.
I'm not a BBF guy so not sure.
When you are drilling down in the menu for the AEL button under "shoot" which starts on page 2 of 2, there are 22 pages of choices, each with variable number of selectable items. That is not obvious at first but the little deltas pointing left and right are the clue.
I think you can do what you want with the center button of the ring,AKA hat switch.

I have one and I have the AEL button set to back button focus. Unfortunately I did that over a year ago and can't remember exactly how I did it to describe it to you, but it was not magic. I did it using the Custom setting in the menu. I assigned functions to all of the keys the same way using the custom key function.
This is from the manual I use for everything...
"AF-On
If you assign the AF-On option to the Custom 1
button, when you press the button in shooting mode
the camera will use its autofocus immediately, without
your having to press the shutter button halfway. The
camera will use the current focus settings, including
the position of the focus mode dial and the setting for
Focus Area. If the focus mode dial is at the MF position
for manual focus, pressing the assigned button will
have no effect.
You can use this button assignment to set up the
camera for “back button focus.” To do that, assign
a button to AF-On, and then go to screen 5 of the
Camera Settings1 menu and set AF w/Shutter to Off,
so the camera will not focus when you press the shutter
button halfway down. In addition, you may want to
turn off the Pre-AF option on that same menu screen,
so the camera does not use its autofocus automatically,
before you press the button to cause it to autofocus."

AF mode is on the 2nd page of choices. You're probably only scrolling up and down in the first page of choices.
on menu go to page 2 of Custom Key(Shoot.)
Select AEL Button
Go to the second page of choices "AF2" (menu page 4/22)
Select AF On
Done, but don't forget to remove that function from the shutter release button...

Go to Settings2 (purple) at top of menu. Go to page 9 and down to Custom Key (Shoot.) Press center button and go to page to and down to AEL. Press center button and go to page 4 and down to AF-On then press center button then press Menu twice.

I don't think my wife would agree with your assessment of my brain power, but you're welcome and enjoy that camera. It is so much fun to use!

One more thing that will make your back button use much easier. I ordered these little sticky clear rubber bumps from Amazon. Included in the assortment are little half spheres that are exactly the size of the buttons on the RX10. I stuck one of those on the AEL button and it makes it really easy for your thumb to find in the dark or when you're looking through the viewfinder...

Go to Custom Key (shoot)
Select AEL Button
Select AF-ON (P22)
Find AF w/shutter
Turn it OFF
I find it easier to use the Focus Hold button on the left side of the barrel.
