Hi Folks, couldn't sleep one night while staying in Jeffersonville Indiana (across the Ohio River from Louisville KY), so the wife and I decided to drive to the riverfront along the Ohio river and do some early morning sightseeing. This image is of the newly constructed Abraham Lincoln Bridge that carries northbound I-65 traffic over the Ohio. Behind it is the John F. Kennedy Bridge that carries southbound I-65 traffic. Handheld and taken around 5:30am.

I have a Canon 5DIII that I bought about 1 1/2 years ago. In the first year, I had to send it back to Canon for repair 3 or 4 times with completely different issues each time.
Of course, it is now out of warranty.
The newest problem is that it won't shoot a run of 7 bracketed photos, and chokes after 4 or 5. No images are saved to the memory card.
I wanted to include this camera body in my real estate photography work, but need a wide angle lens. The Canon wide angle for this work costs $3,000, so I looked for a less costly lens solution. I purchased a new Tamron SP 15-30mm f-2.8 lens. Great lens, although a bit heavy.
The first few times I used this lens, the 5DIII did a great job bracketing 7 shots, and I was pretty happy with the images.
Then, it stopped completing all 7 brackets.
I called Canon support. They argued that it was due to using a third party lens and I should talk to Tamron. I argued that I put this lens on my 7DII and it bracketed 7 shots perfectly.
Canon said that didn't matter and it was due to using the third party lens.
I did call Tamron and they suggested I try a different memory card. I did and it made no difference.
Has anyone else had an issue with shooting brackets with a 5DIII?

I have read the whole report
And the only thing that I
can say is this, there is something going on that we are overlooking and I am wondering if humidity could possibly be the culprit in this case
After this thing got fried the first time is it possible that there are bare contacts on any of the cards that can now be effected by humidity?
This is just a thought

Actually I don't really understand a minimum age of 18 unless it is just to keep admin's lawyer from having a cardiac event. I taught photo for one year at a high school and some of those kids were better than most on here and more mature than some.
I know for a fact we have had high school students on the UHH, I answered some of their questions.

Besides any high school or junior high school kid who can't fake their age on line is probably too stupid to operate a camera or computer. I had one student (computer/tech geek of course-worked for the campus tech coordinator 1 period a day) who worked from home a couple hours each night and on weekends doing tech work for a real estate company (they thought he was in college). He was clearing over $500 a week back around 2004 or so. Helping his Dad with the house and other bills, bought his Mom a car of her own and paid for a lot of stuff for his little brothers and sisters. Plus saving up in case he had time to go to college. He was not the only kid mature enough for any site like this.

I went over and looked at the Nude...Boudoir etc site. There may be someone who is into "ART" on there but seems to be mostly DOM or DYM. Finally someplace that "The Attic" can look down on from the moral high ground.

.How are you supposed to operate the switches that are behind that hard plastic film. Thanks. REJ.

The reason they are kind off hard to move is because once they are set to match each other you don't need to move them again
Set the trigger to the same 4 numbers as the receiver using a ballpoint pen or something like that and you are done and never have to move them again

But since everything is automated once the machinery is set up to produce a particular lens does it really cost that much more to produce? I am just baffled why one lens can cost $5,000 and another may cost $400 when they both take tack sharp photo's, but one just needs a bit more light to do it.

You can compare lenses to Diamonds

Have I ever mentioned that I hate passwords, and Apple's system in particular? Of course I have. I have spent hours on my iMac 27 this morning trying to sign in to various things, with little success. Sure, LastPass and Google can remember thousands of passwords, but they don't insert them when I need them. If I had LastPass make up a p/w for me, it would be impossible to remember it, and when I had to fill it in on my own, I would be stuck.

Some sites require a special character, but other sites forbid them. Some sites will not let me use any password that I have ever used before. Apple made me go through several because it said some were too easy to guess. Really? They say you shouldn't use one password for everything, but that isn't possible because different sites have different requirements. My email password works on my email site, but Apple will not accept it to retrieve email from the site. It says it is wrong.

What's most frustrating is changing a password and then not being able to sign in with it. And why does Apple require so many passwords? Couldn't I have just one? I went through a very lengthy process to change my Apple password, but when I tried to use it for something, it said it was invalid. The stupid keychain never works, and I keep getting windows popping up asking me if I want to reset to default. I click Yes, but it can't do that, and it can't Cancel, either, so that stupid keychain window keeps popping up. What a morning!

I'm not looking for help or advice, because this is like running through quicksand, and there is nothing that will help. I'm just letting off steam.

Lots of murky and byzantine details, and amazed no one sent info on this out yet.

Today Adobe released some new pricing plans around Lightroom.

Buried in the byzantine details, is that Adobe is phasing out Lightroom standalone. :-(

Here are a few links:

https://www.engadget.com/2017/10/18/adobe-max-lightroom-cc-cloud-1tb/

https://www.cnet.com/news/adobe-lightroom-cc-faces-an-uphill-climb-photoshop-2018/

Looks like they still have the $10 a month plan, and they rolled out a new $20 a month plan -- the main addition for the $20 plan appears to be 1TB of cloud storage for that extra $10.

Personally -- I'm glad I'm not an Adobe user, plenty of great alternatives that are almost as good and way, way less expensive . It's only going to get worse going down the road. My prediction is that in two years or less the $10 a month plan will be the $11.99 or $12.99 a month plan.

Dear Keith Jegen,

Thank you for contacting Canon product support regarding your EOS 5D Mark IV. I understand you would like to check the shutter count of your camera. I can address your question.

In order to determine the shutter count of the camera it would need to be sent to one of our service centers for a free evaluation. For factory service, please forward your camera to one of the Factory Service Centers shown below. If it has been less than one year since the camera was purchased, we ask that you also include proof of warranty in the form of a copy of your sales receipt.

When shipping your camera, please be sure to remove the memory card and batteries. You are not required to send any accessories or manuals when shipping the camera. Be sure to include a letter with your name, street address (no P.O. boxes, please), telephone number, email address, and a request for the shutter count.

As we do not provide RMA numbers for service, we suggest using a trackable and insurable service (i.e. UPS, Federal Express, Priority Mail) to ship your camera. Please package the camera very securely (2-3 inches of bubble-wrap) in a sturdy shipping box to prevent damage during shipment.

Please send your camera to one of the Factory Service Centers below:

Oh, stop! All you people are making my head hurt!

Nikon Li-ion01 and 02 both are labeled "Cells made in Japan, further processed in China." The 01 is also labeled Sony but the 02 just says Nikon. Wasabi reads, "Premium cells from Japan. Made in China". Do Nikon and Canon and Pentax et al make their own batteries or do they do they sub it out by way of a "third party manufacturing contract"? Just who are the third parties I should avoid?

I have a DSLR with 9 focus points. Sometimes they get me into trouble, as in the time I wanted to photograph a speaker behind a lecturn with my then-new camera not realizing that the darn thing focused on the front edge of the lecturn and not the speaker's face. I now use a single point most of the time.

Can anyone tell me why the heck some manufacturers boast of "51 autofocus" points? Heck, why not advance the technology and make all 21 million pixels (for example) each a focus point? Is this another numbers game between manufacturers?

That is why many photographers use manual focus that way you are in charge what is in focus when you push that button
