The depth of field is very good in your photo, but I think (and this is from a self taught photographer also) the cut off body of the bird is distracting. Maybe try the same composition techniques, but include the entire bird.

just as a sidebar note: I have never taken a photo course ...completely self taught here, with lots to learn still.

Thanks for your input.

Hope in in the right Topic.

I want to print one. One is computer enhanced and one isn't. Which one is better for printing?

I definitely like the enhanced version better.
The colors are more vibrant and make the bird stand out in the photo. Some may think enhancement is "cheating", but in the days before graphics editors, we used to retouch photos in the lab which in my opinion is the same thing.

I agree with Libbypics wholeheartedly. These are people asking for advise, and probably relatively new at whatever aspect of photography they are working with. There is no need to come in here and post "angry little gremlins" and make comments like that. If you can't give constructive criticism and encouragement, please keep your comments to yourself. I would encourage everyone to post their pictures here for critique and help with their work.

Other than the subjects already mentioned I think your composition is very good, the subject matter pleasing to the eye. Keep up the good work and work on the color problem and you will have very good photos to show for it.

Yes, it is now a museum, open to the public daily, and once a year they open the larger aircraft to the public so you can go inside.

I'm not sure how it will work, but you might try taking a picture of a hardwood floor (or carpet) and using that as a first layer, then your background over that cover about the upper 2/3 of the print, then the photograph as the top layer (as a transparent layer). It might give you acceptable results. I've found the key to these problems is to experiment (alot!).

No, unfortunately it was closed in 1995, I believe. I was flying south in a Cessna 172 between the runway and the Sierra mountains while a B-52 was northbound on final approach. Talk about a flea on an elephant's behind! I have included a shot of the B-52 and a couple of other aircraft here that are on display.

Thanks. Their collection is quite impressive. It includes everything from a North American TA-6 "Texan" to a Consolidated-Vultee RB-36H "Peacemaker" which is one of the largest aircraft ever built. It was designed for one purpose: to carry the MK-17 thermo-nuclear bomb, and it is the only aircraft that is capable of doing so.

I think the second effort is much better. I've had the same trouble when trying to replace backgrounds. What I've found useful using PaintShop Pro is layering the photo over the background as a transparent selection, and then using the eraser tool to take out the unwanted areas of the photo. This seems to result in a more natural look.

Awesome shots! I thought about wildlife photography, but I guess I just don't have the patience. The depth of field helps to emphasize the sharpness of the woodpecker.

This is a B-24M on display at Castle Airbase in Atwater, CA. It is one of about 50 aircraft recovered and displayed at the museum. Photo taken w/ Canon Rebel t3, 18-55mm zoom lens, full auot mode. The power lines and other distracting objects have been edited out using Paint Shop Pro.

Is there anyone in the group who does astrophotography? I am interested on information about stacking images and using color filters for nebulae.
