That button should be moved so it is next to a small red dot on the lens barrel. Next, the lens needs to be stopped down to its smallest aperture (largest F/number , like 22 or 32. That will allow AF to function. Then, mount your lens on the camera, be sure everything is on properly...lens lock clicks, etc., then go shoot! Enjoy your "new" lens!
