My original notes are long gone, probably chucked them out because they were all done with sub-par quality single element close-up lenses and I didn’t use them. I really did not expect to run more tests at this time (many irons in the fire), but since I committed myself I’ll work them in in the next few days. Besides a Cokin P-103 3-diopter single element lens, I have Nikon 5T and 6T achromats, 62mm 1.5 and 2.9 diopters, respectively.

It's been a few days ... any results yet?

So I have quite a bit of disposable income and really no dire need to buy a new lens. But in all haste, I have been kicking around the idea of buying this prime for night landscape work for a while after a friend used one to take photos of my band at a live performance in very undesirable lower than usual light conditions.

More to the point of the title. I looked on B&H (preferred), Adorama, and even Amazon and this lens is on back order on each of those sites! I mean, i get if there were some deep discounts, but it's like $100 off as a manufacturing discount (like every month), so did I miss something? I know it's a fantastic lens, I have seen it in action, and even used it for a couple shots in between sets on stage.

Unless I'm reading it wrong (highly likely!), it is available now:

Kodachrome's unique dye-building process was why it was such a great archival film--those dyes were very stable and did not fade over time. It was also why the film had such small grain.

Sure Kodachrome was stable - unless you actually wanted to view your images - they quickly faded when exposed to light. If we were going to project our slides, or make very many Cibachrome prints, we copied the Kodachrome slides onto Ektachrome film, which was more resistant to fading.
I believe Kodachrome's demise began when Fujifilm introduced Velvia-50 - still the sharpest transparency film available. The colour was a bit too saturated for my liking, but that was easily moderated when making Cibachrome prints. It was also resistant to fading when exposed to light, so projecting was no problem.
Also, Kodak shot themselves in the foot when their Jesus freaks ignorantly considered Playboy magazine's work to be pornographic, even though none of it was any more prurient than what the old masters had been painting for two or three hundred years. A number of my associates dumped Kodachrome for Velvia at that time. Personally, I dumped Kodachrome a couple of months after Velvia was introduced, and would be using it today if I were not committed to digital.

Greetings Y'all! I say Y'all because that is Southern for you all. My daughter's dog discovered a plastic film canister and was chewing on it. When it was brought to me I discovered that it contained a 36 exposure roll of Kodachrome 64 slide film, apparently exposed. I cannot remember shooting this film. Being old I can't remember what day of the week it is. Anyway, where can I send this film for processing and does anybody have any idea what they will charge now? I am curious to see what is on this roll of film but if they charge an arm and a leg to process it I reckon I will just forget it.

Kodachrome can only be processed as black and white now.

CFE cards weren’t around when the owners manual was written. I had seen something in the past about an update from Nikon but wasn’t sure if that had occurred.

Is this current?

Howdy Hogs,
I have a D850 and have only used SD cards. Would like to purchase either an XQD or CFExpress card and see if I find it useful. I’m not certain the CFExpress is compatible.
Hoping for recommendations. I would most likely want 64 or 128gb.
Thank y’all for any help,
Matt

The compatible cards are listed in the user’s manual.

The ball head looks like a Bogen 3055 - why so secretive as to the pan head?

First the basics. I'm 79 and my wife is 75. Like everyone else, we have been in lockdown for 6 months. I am thinking about a trip to see some of the Utah parks, Monument Valley and possibly the Grand Canyon north rim. This will be a driving trip starting from Los Angeles and we would probably spend 7 or 8 days on the road. We are both in reasonable health with no underlying health issues. We are thinking of late September or early October. While I will be into my photography, my wife will basically be along for the ride. There will be no long hikes or climbing. The $64 question is can we stay safe.
My plan would be to take our own bedding for the trip. I would not rely on local motels to have the best disinfectant protocols. I am guessing we can keep social distancing fairly easily with the possible exception of hiring a guide in Monument Valley. Have you done this trip in recent months or do you know of others who made this trip and with what results? I'm on the fence but obviously don't want to do something stupid. I would like to keep the motel stops to a minimum and was looking for suggestions for a base location near Zion or Brice to do day trips of less than 150 miles. I'm not going to make it all the way to Moab. Suggestions?

I'd do it if I wanted to. If I didn't want to, I wouldn't. But then, I don't copy what others do.

Hello,
Once again I need your help. I have a Sakar auto mc zoom/macro 50-220 mm lens. It's 40 years old in near new condition. My husband bought it new to use on his Nikon dlsr but rarely used it. I put it on my D500 and set it up to recognize the aperture. It meters ok. However, when I try to focus at any distance except around 50mm it is blurry. I wanted to use it at further distances. I tried changing the aperture and focusing ring without success. What am I missing? Is it me or the lens? Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thank you

You could reduce the camera weight by using prime lenses instead.

In fact, the weight of a lens has no effect on the camera's weight. For example, a camera that weight 1100g with no lens attached, will weigh 1100g with any kind of lens attached. It's simple quantum physics.
